I looked at cam eyes wide, i hadn't realised i was holding my breath till i let out a urgent breath. so soon, i kept thinking, so soon we have to leave for a whole new life and i don't even know the reason behind it. a spark of anger lit up inside of me. I feel so foolish. foolish to think that i could handle such adult feelings.
"Oh" was all I managed to say. Cam stared into my eyes "Uh. where?" i ask finally
"A school. For gifted children, ones who can see into the future, do magic of all kinds, ones of nephilim blood and so many more things" he said carefully as if not to scare me.
"Oh" i said again. was this what it was like to be in shock? i let go of Cam and walked over to my bedside table reaching for my phone, there was a message from mum and dad saying Turkey is lovely and they miss us all. i suddenly felt like i was swallowing a burning piece of coal, my family...if i want to keep them safe i have to leave. "How soon do we have to leave?"
"Soon as possible" he said, i nodded once and went to my sisters room, i opened the door slightly and popped my head round. i could hear light snoring and smelled her ghost perfume, it was so strong it burnt my nose whenever i inhaled. i opened the rest of the door and stepped through walking over to her bed
"Lou..." i whispered shaking her gently "Louise" i said a little louder shaking her a bit more "Lou-argh!" i felt her arm whack me face and stumbled backwards off the bed
"WhowhaLEE" she shouted sleepily looking around confused "What are you doing on the floor?" she asked, i groaned in response and informed her of what was going to happen with me leaving and where i was going, she wasn't all too happy about it, but she was kind enough to help me pack and take my stuff to the car, Lucas stylish black land rover lrx, i admit i was hugely jealous of his car. before i left i changed into light grey hollister banded sweatpants, white converse with yellow 3/4 length top and a hoodie. i went to my brothers room, he was sound asleep and looked like an angel, that same swallowing hot coal feeling came back as i kissed his forehead and whispered goodbye with tears stinging my eyes. He will be safe, that's all that matters, i stroked his face "If anyone hurts you..." i whispered "I swear i will hunt them down and kill them. No one is going to hurt you, not ever" i kissed his forehead again and left his room. I walked down the stairs swooping down to get my bag and heading for the door, as i stepped out into the blissfully calm grey day i heard Luca shouting something at me
"Car rules!" he said as i walked down the pathway "Number uno, no smoking inside the car. Number B"
"B isn't a number" i stated, he swiftly ignored it and carried on, Cam and Louise stifling laughter
"Listen to the captain, moi" he said poking two thumbs to his chest "Numbero 3, he who smelt it dealt it, okay lets go" he said clapping his hands together and sat inside his car taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly. i laughed to myself and looked up at my sister, she looked sad
"Cam said, that i wont remember you?" she said, i shrugged
"I don't know what he's going to do, but it's better you don't remember me isn't it?" i said in a quiet voice, she nodded hugging me tightly
"Gonna miss you shithead" she whispered, we both laughed
"Miss you too bitchface" she let me go and lightly hit me on the arm walking back towards the house and stood in the doorway, i smiled and waved at her then turned my attention to Cam who embraced me in a hug that lifted me off the ground
"I'm gonna miss you" he said kissing me "So much" he put the tip of his nose to mine,
"likewise" i said with a smile and kissed him again
"I'll come and see you soon" he said hugging me again
"How soon?"
"Very soon" Cam said kissing my forehead
"Very, very soon?" i asked raising my eyebrows
"Very, very, very soon" we both laughed quietly and looked at each other for a while, all the while my heart was racing and i felt a little queasy. But the sound of the birds and the feel of the wind calmed me, i took a deep breath and heared the car hum to life, i took one last look at my house, my beautiful house huge and full of character and history. i am going to miss everything but it's for the best. i just have to keep reminding myself that. The window of the car slid down and Luca looked at me over his Ray Ban Avatar glasses, i laughed
"Why do you have sunglasses on it itsn't-" just then the sun appeared through the clouds and the day turned from grey to sunny "Of course you can control the weather" i said to myself as i opened the car door and jumped in, Cam closed the door for me and rested his elbows on the door and kissed my cheek
"See you soon" he whispered in my ear
"Keep them safe" i said "I want to know everything that goes on in their lives just to keep them safe" he nodded once
"I love you." he said abruptly
"I love you too" i smiled,
"You." Cam pointed at Luca "Keep her safe" Luca responded with a salute, then turned on the radio and drove forwards onto the road and we headed off to a school for gifted children, i fastened my seat belt
"So where is this school then?" i asked Luca whilst taking off my hoodie, he was just in a black pair of jeans and a dark grey V-neck teeshirt
"This school is in a far away place" he said in a sinister voice, i rolled my eyes opening the glove compartment where several pairs of candy bars and sunglasses, i gave a short laugh and took out a pair of his sunglasses
"Aren't people going to find it weird that its sunny during December?" i said holding the sunglasses up giving the 'okay if i borrow them' look, Luca nodded and looked at the sky
"Who cares? I love the sun, even though im like half vampire and all but Whatever" he said 'whatever' in a high voice, i smiled at him, it was weird how he was so human. Then he has probably been alive for years but it was still surreal. We drove through the city center and i watched as people went about their day, business men and women rushing to work, shops just opening up, the great thing was, there are so many cafes around here that the smell of fresh coffee always lingered in the air
"Can we get a coffee to go?" i ask, he looks over at me then back at the road,
"Sure, i'll go get it and you wait here, yes?" he says, i nod my head as he parks the car by the sidewalk behind a blue mini convertible with the top down, Luca got out the car and came to my window "How do you take your coffee?"
"Black. Like my soul" i said getting out a magazine, Luca scoffed
"What soul?" he said walking away "Stay in the car" he called back at me. As i was totally engrossed in reading my magazine when i heard a car shume to life, i looked up to see the blue mini, there was now a girl with white blond hair dip dyed pink in the drivers seat, her skin was pale but she had a kind of glowing aura around her, she locked eyes with me in her rear view mirror, i quickly looked away embarrased when Luca appeared at my window and handed me my coffee
"Careful it's hot" he said handing me a water bottle, i looked at him "so you don't dehydrate" i laughed at him as he got back in the car and we started back on the road to my new life and i was not looking forward to it. I didn't have a good feeling about it, Luca turned on the radio and Adele Rolling In The Deep started playing, my mood perked
"I love this song" i said turning it up
"You ready for a road trip?!" Luca shouted
"Yeah boi" i shouted back, i stared into the side mirror of the car and watched as the place i grew up in become smaller and smaller till it disappeared behind me. I tore my eyes from the mirror and stared straight ahead, it was going to be a long ride.
