Covered in a blanket and with tears escaping her eyes, she had a feeling she won't make it to the 1st January of the New Year. Without him, it was even hard to exist. Somehow, she wished for the fireworks to happen as soon as they could. They reminded her of his cheery smile and that face which was even brighter than the moon to her. She missed him. Badly. If only he had let her explain as to what she meant by "needing him but not wanting him to stay". If only. She was a grenade to him but relying on her fate, she still had emailed him her medical report. Turning her side, she picked up her beeping phone without even having a look at the caller dial.
"Hey, love". And there, her face caught the smile like the first time she looked in his eyes.
"I thought you wouldn't let me explain", her voice came out cracking.
"I didn't want you to stay because.."
"Because you love me", he interrupted her. "But you really think I won't be there when you need me? I love you more than I love myself. And even after the doctors have given their word, you'll survive. I'll be by your side to fix that hole in your heart. We'll survive. Together."
She felt strong and healthier like never before. She smiled like she had never been merrier. And there at that moment, she heard the fireworks and his voice said, "Happy New Year, love. I love you. Welcome to 2017. Together, we made it through."
