Michael P.O.V
I woke up to find Calum was not next to me and sit up and yawn. I check my phone and see a text from my mom and one from Luke. Weird. I open it and read the text.
Hey, so my family vacation this year is in Colorado! That's where Cal is right? Anyway where in Denver and I was thinking we could all hang out and I could finally meet him. I sit up and yawn and text Luke back.
Hey yeah I'm in Denver.
So want to meet up?
I'll have to ask Calum what were doing. I say. I hear the door upstairs open as Calum walks downstairs holding a pink box. "My mom took me to Voodoo Donoughts so I got us some." He says setting the box on his desk. "So my friend Luke is here like in Denver and he wants to meet you." I say. "Okay then." Calum says opening the box and pulling out a donut that is covered in fruit loops. "Are you okay with that?" "Sure he's your best friend right?" I nod but feel nervous considering he doesn't know about Calum and I dating. "Yeah." I say and get out of bed and get a donut." You seem nervous about it?" "He dosesn't know were dating." I say and sit on the couch and look at the wall. "Well tell him when we meet up did he text you?" Calum asks. " Yeah my phone's on the bed." I say.
Three hours later
I'm a nervous wreck and I have no idea why. I can feel my heart racing and my palms I keep wiping on my jeans cause they are sweating so much. We're meeting at City Park which is super big. " See the big building right their?" Calum asks. "That's a school?" I ask. It's a large brick building with a clock tower and a baseball field and across the street a track and football field. "That's my high school."
"East right?" I say. "Good memory." He says and leans into me. We're sitting by a tree as the traffic whizzes past. I tilt my sunglasses down as I look for Luke. "Is that him?" Calum asks standing up. I look and see him and call his name and wave him over and get up quickly.
"Michael hey." He says walking over and gives me a hug. "This is Calum." I say. He lets go of me and looks at Calum and I already feel things going wrong. " Shorter than I thought he says." "Thanks?" "Not everyone is as tall as you." I say. Luke laughs at this. " So how have things been?" "Good." " You're not leading him on are you?" Luke asks. " No?" I look at Luke wondering why he's being such a dick right now. " I've watched your covers their really good." Calum says trying to say something to make Luke like him. " Thanks." He says and smiles a little and looks over at me. " Want to get some food their's some places to eat up this way." Calum says pointing at his school. " That sounds fun." I say. Luke shrugs but follows Calum across the street down a busy sidewalk to a Chinese place that is next to a tattoo shop. "So you two have been friends since you were kids right?" Cal asks trying desperately to peel back Luke's layers and finding some common ground. " Yeah well we hated one another at first but now were friends." He says and looks over at me. " He's my subway buddy." I say. "You two met on twitter did you just slide into his DM's?" Luke asks. I blush and mess with my long fringe. " Luke shut up." I say. "I mean I did a little." Calum says and gets a mouthful of food so he dosen't have to answer to Luke. After lunch, we take a bus to Calum's house only after I forgot about his fear of public transport. I can tell he's nervous but Luke' is in his element we take the subway everywhere.
"Relax." I soothe and squeeze Calum's hand as I can tell his mind is racing. " I can't." "No one will hurt you I swear your fine everyone is preoccupied anyway." I say. I want to kiss him but that will get me strange looks from other passengers and Luke. "Why so scared it's just a bus." Luke says noticing that Cal hasn't said a word to him. "I 've only been on a bus twice." He says. " What?" "My mom takes me to school and my best friend takes me home, I have no need." He says. "I'm used to public transport." Luke boast. "You live in NYC though."Calum says and takes a deep breath but looks panicked. " Don't hyperventilate okay I'm right here." I say trying to calm him but he's not calming down, at all. "Don't be afraid of a bus full of strangers who could stab you." Luke says I turn and glare at him and elbow him in the stomach."Luke stop it your not helping he's obviously scared. I say looking at Luke who's sitting to my right. Calum looks out the window and breathes loudly. I feel bad for him and wish we were home already. But as luck would have it in the sweltering end of June heat the bus breaks down and we have to catch another one and were short on money. Cal is scrambling for an explanation and hoping he can get one but the driver is not having it and I can see him become smaller at the drivers words. "We get on right?" Luke asks. I slap his shoulder and go sit next to Calum in the bus stop. "I'm such a screw-up! I'm sorry I suck and can't drive. I'm sorry I can never man up and cry all the time like now. Crying won't help me get anywhere, why am I so sensitive? He says and sniffles. " Crying won't get you anywhere but an Uber will." Luke says and scrolls through his phone. I don't understand his rudeness toward Calum but I don't like it, at all. I want to snap at him but Cal is pretty much having a breakdown so I can't snap at Luke yet. " Want me to call Ashton to take us to your house? We're close to him right?" I say. "You can if you want." He says handing me his phone. His cheeks are tear-stained and his eyes full of unshed tears. I call Ashton as Luke pouts next to me. A while later Ashton arrives and picks us up. Luke seems to warm up to him quickly but is still throwing shade at Calum. "I'm sorry for crying so much." Calum apologizes. " It's fine." " I'm sorry Luke's being a dick." I say.
