Confusion.

Autumn...she...was abused. How had I not realized this before?

I stared at her, dumbfound.

I feel so guilty...

"Wh-How-...?" I couldn't finish my sentence.

Pain was in Autumn's eyes, I could tell.

"I'm sorry," was all I could manage to say.

Autumn nodded.

"Is there anything I can do? Who else knows?"

"No. There's nothing you can do. Your the first person to know about it." She stared at the ground.

"Well maybe we could call-"

"No," she snapped. "We're not calling anybody."

Silence.

"We should go," she mumbled.

"But-" I protested. I wanted to know more. Pain filled my heart.

How could I have not noticed...?

"Yes," she packed her picnic basket. "C'mon girls. Let's go home."

"But I wanna stay!" whined Maya.

"No," demanded Autumn. "We're leaving."

The trio left, leaving me stunned and alone.

Why...?

I then remembered why I was even there.

Magic...it's real...but...how?

I walked over and ran my hands over the rough bark.

Why is it just now showing its true form?

"Because you believe..."

What? That wasn't my voice or conscious.

Suddenly a tiny light flickered in the tree.

"Waa...?"

"You believed. That's why we showed our true potential."

"Who's there?" I started to panic. What was happening? What was going on?

"Do not be afraid. You have found us."

The light flew closer, and I backed away. Why was this happening? If this was some type of joke, it wasn't funny in the least bit.

"There is no need to back away. Come closer and see for yourself that we truly are real."

I stopped. Maybe I should go closer. But what if that thing was dangerous?

"We will not harm you. In fact, we will do the complete opposite."

Curiosity finally overwhelmed me and I started slowly walking forward. "What...are you?"

"I am a fairy."
