I woke up with Dot sleeping next to me. "Good morning sunshine," I whispered quiet enough so she wouldn't awake.

It was Sunday. Tonight my parents would return.

I prayed they would.

Yes I said WOULD. Because if they DIDN'T return, my siblings and I would be sent to an orphanage. We would have to go through dozens of foster homes. And we would probably get split up.

I wasn't going to let that happen.

I'd rather be beaten than to have my siblings, my salvation, taken away from me.

I looked at the clock.

7:30 a.m.

Wait. 7:30 on a Sunday morning, and my parents weren't home.

I could go to church.

If my old best friend, Mary Ruth, hadn't talked so much about her church, I would have no idea which one to try.

I sprung out of bed; I had never been so excited. I searched through my closet, trying to find a dress nice enough for church.

I ran into the bathroom to take a shower. I wanted to look, and smell, my best.

Once I had finished getting ready, I opened the bathroom door to find a groggy Dot.

"Good morning!" I exclaimed happily.

"Why are you dressed so nice?" she asked.

"I'm going to church."

"Church?"

"Yes."

"But you aren't a Christian."

"Yes I am."

"How?"

"My old friend Mary Ruth."

"She turned you into a Christian?"

I laughed. "Yes. She got me my own Bible. That's where I met God."

"Can I go with you?"

"Only if you hurry and get on some nice clothes."

She rushed to pick out a nice dress and I walked into the kitchen to make breakfast. A moment later Maya and Luna walked in.

"What's the occasion?" laughed Luna.

"I'm going to church." Great. More explaining.

"Really?"

"Yep."

"Can I come too?"

"Me too!" exclaimed Maya.

"Sure, but put on some nice clothes."

"Okay!"

The girls rushed into their bedroom to get dressed.

The thought then came to me...How will we get there?

My parents hadn't let me get my driver's license. They thought only adults should be allowed to drive. Getting my license was something I dreamed about, but I knew it wouldn't happen till I turned eighteen.

I guess we would have to walk.

Man I couldn't wait to become an adult because 1.) I could get my driver's license, 2.) I could get away from my parents, and 3.) I could finally reveal the abuse they put me through. They only reason I didn't do that now was because we would be split apart, but if I did it when I was an adult, I could adopt all of them.
