The Help (MB)

Chapter 29

*Amaya*

The next morning,we woke up the sane way. E was banging on the door to wake us up,then he came to take us out of the chains. We all eyed each other,making sure we remembered the plan, and we quietly did as told when we walked out into the hallway. One thing I noticed, though, was that Mike wasn't with E at all, which was oddly strange.

"Where's Mike?" I asked,only to be answered by silence. E really never talked,and he acted as if he didnt even hear my question. He gave us gowns and motioned us into the bathroom,but we stood there a moment,and I poked his nose.

"You know,you really look like a cartoon character of some sort. You aren't exactly the attractive type either..." I stalled as the girls quietly backed off and I rounded the corner in the opposite direction so that E's eyes would follow me and not them. I quickly reached down and grabbed the keys that were hooked onto his belt. I held the small ring of various keys,holding it out from his reach as he tried to get it.

"What are all these keys for?" I asked,then peeked from the corner of my eye and saw the girls opening the window on the opposite side of the hall. E did some sort of growling sound,and I found that his voice was very deep,or maybe it was just because he was mad. I giggled. "Don't be mad. Its a simple question." The girls were moving quickly and Peyton was lowering down from the window by now.

I skipped down a few more feet away to stall a minute more until Kenya lowered herself down,then gave me a signal. I gave him his keys back and giggled. "Sorry. It should be my turn to take a shower by now.."

I turned and walked into the bathroom,then turned back around. "I forgot my washing rag by my mattress! Will you go get it for me?" I asked,looking at E.

He raised his eyebrows as if that was the most stupidest question he'd ever heard. He shook his head no.

"Fine. I'd hate for you to get in trouble for this but.." I prepared myself to where my voice would be a little louder for someone to hear.

"No E! Why are you trying to help me escape? I like it here!" E quickly covered my mouth and looked around,widening his eyes as if he were scared someone heard. He then glared at me before walking away back to our room to "get my rag". I quickly ran to the window and lowered myself feet first from it,making sure to close it behind me.

I looked down and saw that I was standing on the edge of the roof. The way down was pretty far,but by the looks of it,it wouldn't do too much damage. I saw Penny,Peyton, and Kenya lowered behind a bush,motioning me to hurry. I quickly jumped down.

Landing on the ground,I felt a very noticeable pain in the back of my left leg and my hip. I groaned a bit,but quickly bent down and rushed over to the bush they were behind. We all hid ourselves fully and looked around,eyeing our surroundings.

And surprisingly,all we saw were fences,guards,fences,more fences,and woods. We would definitely be going to the woods,but what after that? How would we go by not getting caught?

Was this plan of escape a good plan after all?
