After gorging on two whole cans of peaches, the boys sat on the floor, fulfilled. Dan then walked over to the sink, with the gait and posture of a curious cat. He cautiously turned the knob. There was a moment of silence which was broken by rattling, rusty pipes. And like an old man standing up out a chair, slowly but surely, clear water came drizzling out of the tap. He turned around and looked at Phil who was still spent from eating on the floor.
"We've got water" Dan grinned
Phil smiled in a giddy way in response
"I'm pretty tired... its getting dark. Wanna get some shut eye?" Said the boy with sky blue eyes.
"Sure... wait there's only one bed"
Light awkwardness hung in the air for a moment

"Well I mean I can just sleep in the floor" replied Phil.
"No, I will it's fine" firmly stated dan.
"Listen neither of us have rested in a while...WAIT I KNOW! ROCKPAPERSCISSORS!"

they looked at each other defeatedly
"This probably sounds c-crazy or-r s-s-stupid but I-I mean we c-could a-always-s s-s--"
Phil cut his companion off
"Share the bed? That's what I was thinking, we're both pretty small anyways. I think we can fit pretty comfortable."
They both took off their outermost layers and were down to boxers and shirts. They silently crawled into the bed. It was a bit of a tight squeeze. Phil was right handed do he lied on his right side, his back to the wall. Dan was left handed so he lied on his left side his back to the rest of the room. They were facing each other Phil's long arms were uncomfortably tucked into his chest. Dan was a bit uncomfortable sleeping in a face to face position with someone new, so he rolled over. Now both of their back faced the wall. Phil's arms began to cramp. He tried scooting away from the boy to give himself more arm room, but it was all for not, because his back was already against the wall.
"Hey um Dan?"
"Yes Phil?"
"This is a bit awkward but is there any more room on your side?"
"Nope. I'm practically clung to the edge of the mattress right now."
"Crap."
"Why'd you ask?"
"My arms are cramping and they're so long and lanky that I can't find a place for them"
Dan snorted and so did Phil
What an odd conundrum.
"Can I try something for at least one of my arms?"
"Sure I guess-"
A heavy, long object blanketed Dan's small form.
Phil's arm.
"This isn't weird right?" Phil inquired
"No not really" Dan responded
"Good"
"Good"
For some reason, neither of them were uncomfortable in the slightest. They both felt safe. For the first time in a long time.
