Dan ran over to the bed with enthusiasm and knelt before the body in front of him
He remembered everything like it was yesterday
How he had been in such a bad place in that dreadful park
How he wanted to feel bad when he left but couldn't
How long he had wondered alone, cold, scared, angry, upset, and completely isolated on those desolate train tracks
Then he remembered
The collision of their bodies
The warmth that resonated from that other boy
How he felt like sun
And grass
And flowers
And soft, soft leaves
He felt like the warm winds that floated around Dan in the summer time
He was like a hot bath
Made your muscles relax
Enveloped you in a feeling of safe
Made you just feel... warm
He remembered how Phil had saved him from a horrid life of despair and lonesomeness
He recalled their first conversation
He recalled their last conversation
And all the talks in between
He remembered how all he wanted from the moment he saw the boy was to know his soul
He wanted to know his eyes, his hair, his lips, his hands, his face, his legs, his arms, his neck, his mind, his heart
Dan yearned to know him
From the moment they had met
He remembered the night then shared a bed and how utterly safe he felt in Phil's arms
He remembered Phil's soft voice while they sat and talked on the floor of that shack eating canned peaches
He remembered how dysfunctional they were
But Dan didn't want functional
He wanted
Phil
