The next day you were walking around San Fernando Vally while Chops was at work. you stumbled on to be what you thought was extensions to Phillips fields, and you thought that the fields would be taken up be Needman's team, but you would bee right.
As you were walking between the fields you saw Needman's team, but ignored it until you heard, "Something wrong, Santorelli?" What was Tommy doing on Needman's team? Why would he do something like this? "I'm here aren't I" Tommy replied back as I kept walking, I didn't want to hear the rest of this conversation or break the news the team, the one we had left anyway.
You walked back to the Sandlot noticing that Squints was there and Benny was walking the same way so you tried to catch up with him. "Hey, Benny." You say as you walk up to him even though he was on crutches he was still fast. "Hi Y/n are going to see Squints or helping him get ready for the championship game?" He asked. "Well, I guess both then it would mean the same thing." You said smiling at the end. "Hey, sorry I'm late, buddy," Benny said as I was still walking behind him. "Oh, guys. You didn't have to come help. I'm sure you must have more important things to do." he said looking surprised to see us. "Come on. What's more important than this?" Benny replied to him. I chimed in to say, "Looks good Squints. The old gang would be proud you know." They both looked at me like I would never say something like that in my life. "What?" I said as they both looked back as Squints changed the subject, "Hey, did you hear Ham is wrestling at the State Fair next month?" Really okay I'll just listen then, I said to myself. "The old Hambino is still at it, huh?" They talk for a while as I walk behind them until Benny says, "Nothing like it, though, huh? Coming out to the old ball field, spending the summer with your friends... playing the sport you love." As Squints and I replied, "Yeah" at the same time and smiled. "Playing in the majors must be really great, huh?" Squints continued, but Benny replied with something that is still in Squints' and my heart, "I was talking about you guys."
I knew that Tommy wasn't going to show up on the Sandlot's team today, but I didn't drop hopes. The team finally sees him on Needman's team and everyone instantly forgets him. The Ryan comes and says? "I've got something to say." Everyone was shocked this was the first time we have in four years and he continues his speech, "I've been around you guys for a long time. One thing I know is that Benny's right. You guys love baseball. You eat, drink and sleep baseball, but nothing compares to playing it. If we give up now, well, you can say good-bye to the sandlot forever." But Two-Ton chimed in only to be shut down, "But you don't..." And Ryan jumps in to say "Zip it, tubby! It's my turn to talk. Tommy taught us a lot about baseball skills. Instead of being mad at him, let's show him exactly what he failed to learn from us... how to play the game we love. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to lose this field to a bunch of butt-faces." We laughed at what he said for a little but then Tommy was walking over, throwing his hat and uniform shirt on the ground while walking over to our side. The team was pretty salty about him coming back but he had another speech, man this reminds me of high school, speeches everywhere. Tommy came up to say he wants to win and telling the rest of the team that he was sorry for trading teams, "That is, if you'll have me. Look, I would rather lose a game with my real team... than win one for all the wrong reasons." while the rest of the team looked at him and said," You made a bad mistake." This was when he came back, we accepted him back and guess what, we are going to win.
