It was the 6th year of the Prophet Muhammed's (P.B.U.H) ongoing mission, to spread the message of Islam. This is when Quraish leaders decided to call a meeting and after many discussion of the Holy Prophet's never-ending call to Islam, they had decided on asking for a volunteer to go and assassinate the Prophet (P.B.U.H). Umar had volunteered himself, and they had all agreed that he was the right person for the job.
With the sword ready in his hand, Umar R.A set off with his mind content on killing the Prophet (P.B.U.H). While he was on his way, Umar R.A was stopped by Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas who asked him where he was intent on going. Umar had replied that he was going to murder the holy prophet (P.B.U.H). After some discussion Sa'd said:"You had better take care of your own family first, your sister and brother in law have both embraced the religion of Islam!" With that said, Umar had forgotten all about his planned killing and had turned on his feet- heading towards his sisters home.
When Umar R.A had knocked on his sisters door, Khabbab ibn al-Aratt had been teaching Fatimah and her husband the quran. Upon hearing her Brothers voice, Fatimah had tried hiding the quran she was reciting. After entering the house, Umar RA asked them if they had embraced the religion of Islam. After hearing they have, Umar R.A first fell upon his brother in law and began beating him severly. Intercepting, Umar R.A's Sister Fatimah had ended up being violently smacked across the face.
Fatimah's face now bleeding, she shouted out:"Do what you wish! we are determind to die as Muslims". After seeing his sisters bleeding face, Umar R.A Calmed down and had felt ashamed. He loved his sister very much, but couldn't control his anger for her conversion to Islam.
Despite all the anger, he moved towards Fatimah and asked her to show the Quranic pages and verses to him. Being Umar RA's Sister, she told him straight away:"You can not touch it, unless you take a bath and cleanse yourself!" After cleansing himself, Umar R.A then began reading the Quran. He came across the Beginning of Surah Ta Ha (Chapter 20 In the Quran) and began reading a verse.
"Surely this is the word of Allah! Take me to Muhammed"Umar R.A Exclaimed. Upon hearing this,Khabbab ibn al-Aratt R.A, who had hid himself somewhere in the house, came out and said:"O Umar! It seems as though the prayer the Prophet (P.B.U.H) had made for you has come true! He had said:"Oh Allah, strengthen Islam within either Umar bin Khattab!"
Umar had then made his way to the Prophet (P.B.U.H). On seeing him, the prophet (P.B.U.H) had asked:"Umar! what brings you here?" Umar R.A Replied:"I am here to declare my religion for Islam!". All around him, shouts of "AllahuAkbar!" were rejoiced. After hearing of Umar R.A's conversion to the religion of Islam, this had taken a massive blow on the disbelievers. But, for the Muslims It had meant the freedom to practice their religion in public and most of all be lead by the courageous Amir Al Mu'minin...
