CHAPTER SIX
In the Autopsy Bay, Mitch kept asking Scott the same question. "So... somebody sent you human knee caps in the mail?"
Kevin answered before Scott could. "Kirstie said they match our victim.
"Look, we're dusting the envelope for prints. We'll send someone from the D. C. area." Joe rubbed the bridge of his nose.
Scott shook his head and went back to examining the new evidence. "These patella's are unusually worn."
"From what?" Joe asked, not so frustrated anymore.
"It's hard to say definitively but I'd say the man did a lot of kneeling..."
Mitch perked up and took out a piece of paper as he looked at the caps. "Wait a minute, I've seen that before. That symbol looks familiar, like it's from some kind off seal..."
Joe started to look worried again then turned to Scott. "Okay, look Bones, you are going to, you know, stay with a friend or check into a hotel tonight, right?"
Mitch saw Scott was about to protest so he butt in. "He can stay with me."
"Wha- Joe- Why?!" Scott said after Mitch. He knew not to interrupt him.
"Why? Because I- we care about you, Bones. Plus, Mr. Kneecaps has your home address." Joe tried to make his slip unnoticeable by talking more.
Scott didn't notice. "I can't freak out every time someone Google's me." He shrugged.
Joe sighed. "Kevin? Make sure he goes nowhere alone."
Scott raised his eyebrows in shock. "Kevin do not listen to him!"
Joe scoffed. "Kevin, who are you more afraid of? Him? Or me?"
Kevin put his hands up in surrender. "Whoa! So this is what it's like to be a kindergarten teacher!"
Malo Sweets watched the whole thing from the doorway. Sweets was a caring psychologist for Joe and Scott and an F. B. I. profiler who was well-liked, although his personality was often a contrast to the scientific, analytical personalities of the squints. He could be seen as immature sometimes, which made his job difficult, but he got by fine. "Fascinating interpersonal interaction, you two, bravo."
Scott turned to him in surprise. "Malo!"
"I, uh -" He looked to the table to see Kevin working on the dead body and pauses. "Oh my, that is - that is gross."
Joe snorted. "Yeah, it's an autopsy room, It's no place for therapists. What do ya want?"
Malo rolled his eyes. "Ah, you and Dr. Hoying missed our session this morning?"
"Yea, well, maybe that's because somebody's sendin' body parts to Bones."
Malo looked over and watched as an organ was being pulled from the dead body. "Oh- Oh my god!"
Kirstie walked in just in time to distract him. "I have found the murder weapon."
Scott raised an eyebrow. "That was quick."
"Tapered, inch and a half, with both a hilt and a quillion. Thecannelure is also quite distinctive. " Kirstie said as she held it up.
Joe's eyes widened. "That's the Gargantuan knife!"
Scott rolled his eyes. "Joe, the name is Gormagon. The ritualistic, cannibalistic serial killer. The one that killed Sean Collins?"
"Yea, yea, I know who he killed and what he is!"
