"HOW HAVE YOU been?" Jacob Black, one of the purebloods' unusual friends, asked. The two became close when, on a gloomy day, Karina's car broke down and along came this young boy to save the day. She knew immediately what he was, especially since the blood running through him repulsed her, though Jacob could only sense something small was off as if he wasn't meant to be talking to her. However, her charm and friendliness drew him toward her and suddenly they became acquainted. It had been a few days since the incident with Jasper and the youngest Gutierrez. The Hale did everything he could to make sure Karina could be comfortable around him again and sure enough it worked. Though himself and his family weren't too delighted to see her conversing with an enemy. An enemy who didn't even know that he was one.
"Hey, K." Jacob waved his hands in front of Karina's eyes, snapping her out of her daze. "I swear it's like every time I talk to you, you're in a different universe."
She shook her head, creating a wave of Jake's odour. "Sorry, Jake. A lot's been on my mind lately."
Jacob raised an eyebrow. "The blonde guy, right? Your scary pale—ass boyfriend?"
"Jasper is not my boyfriend. We're just close is all and he isn't scary, Jake. Jasper's really kind. Believe it or not, I have never come across someone like him."
"Damn, you must be pretty head over heels for him."
"Oh, really? What's the deal with you and Bella, huh?" She raised an eyebrow, smirking. He looked embarrassed but nevertheless answered with a meek smile.
"Nothing, K, we're just friends."
"That's what they all say," Karina mumbled in a singing tone.

"IS SHE EVEN Italian?" Rosalie asked with trickles of sass, holding up a bowl of salad.
"Her name's Bella," Emmett replied with his usual silly answers.
"I don't get why we have to do this," Rosalie mumbled. A dangerous scent flew past their noses.
Jasper and Karina stood near one of the huge windows, hoping the scent of pine would mask her scent but they thought foolishly of course.
"Whoo, get a whiff of that."
"Here comes the human." Bella and Edward appeared together by the entrance to the kitchen and living room. Karina tensed when she saw her, her grip on Jasper's arm tightening, recalling the last time they had met and she had been avoiding her every movement at school. Bella's eyes met Karina's, she gave a small smile making her way toward her and Jasper.
"Karina, hey," Bella greeted although it was a very awkward greeting.
"Hi, Bella. This is Jasper," she told Bella, avoiding the confrontation of what happened on the bus, who gave a smile to Jasper who smiled back.
"Right, your boyfriend."
"No," she muttered with an added curse word. "He is my friend."
"But you're holding onto each other?" Bella pointed out.
"Would you rather have our hands pull you apart?"
"Rina," Edward scolded sternly.
"Hush now. I was only joking, right, Bella?"
"Yeah, I guess. So, you're a vampire too, huh?" she perked.
"Somewhat. I'm a pureblood. I've never been bitten." Karina removed the illusion over her eyes, the terrifying red revealing itself to the human who felt her heart skip a beat; that is what she imagined a vampire to look like, the ones you saw in films or read in books — ghostly skin, fangs that could rip you apart, dark coal hair and the red eyes that matched the colour of their preferred beverage of blood.
"Yeah, let's just keep pretending that this isn't dangerous for all of us," Rosalie interrupted, all eyes turning to her.
"I would never tell anybody anything," Bella defended.
"She knows that," Carlisle assured as Rosalie continued to glare at the human.
"Yeah, well, the problem is you two have become public, so . . . " Emmett pointed out, getting his name called out by Esme.
"No, she should know. Our families will be implicated if this ends badly," warned Rosalie, angered by Edward's actions of loving a human.
"Badly as in, I—I'd become the next meal," Bella stuttered, moving closer to Edward. They all laughed in unison.
"Yeah . . . you'd probably get killed by Karina or Jasper!" Emmett added, receiving a glare and mental smack from Esme.
"Jasper's our newest vegetarian, he'll take some time getting used to and as for Roman, he's doing very well to the whole change from human to animal. Karina is yet to adjust though I'm sure she'll do remarkably well," Carlisle explained.
"I've lived off of human blood for a very long time. You better keep your distance for now while I try to change so I'm sorry, Bella, it's for the best."
Just then, a thumping noise was heard by the window; it was Alice and Roman.
"Hi, Bella! I'm Alice, it's so nice to meet you!" Alice said enthusiastically, hugging the human. "Oh, you do smell good."
"Alice, what are you—" Edward said, confused.
"It's okay! Bella and I are gonna be great friends."
"Hey, Bella. I'm Roman," Karina's brother introduced, taking out his hand for her to shake.
"Okay, that's enough chit—chat."
"Wait, we made Italiano for Bella," Esme pointed out but according to Edward, she'd already eaten.
The glass bowl in Rosalie's hands shattered, the delicate pieces scattered around her feet. She was infuriated, very much. It was like smoke was fuming out of her nose like a dragon. Esme ordered her to clean it up, as the human and vampire left.
