"I'LL TAKE GOOD care of her, I promise."

"And so will I." Karina peeked around the wall to look at the trio.

"Oh, Karina. I didn't know you'd be joining Edward and his family on their little baseball outing," Chief Swan commented as he side—hugged the girl who held her breath. The vampire's growing urges started to subdue the more she calmed herself and man was she glad of that.

Edward glared at his close friend for intervening but she didn't care, he made it awkward enough . . . he always did. The guy sneaks into a police officer's daughter's room while she sleeps and who knows for how long?

"Is your brother going with you? I mean I hope he is, there's some pretty gruesome murders going around and it's not safe out there."

"Dad, are you saying that she's not able to take care of herself?" Bella asked, slouching.

"Of course she can, I'm just saying—"

"It's fine, Charlie and yes, Roman will be coming," she assured firmly.

"That's good to hear. Well, I'll leave you three to it then." Edward and Karina made their way outside while Charlie made sure Bella had her pepper spray.

"And since when do vampires like baseball?" Bella questioned as they arrived at the secret baseball location, secluded from any wandering human and located perfectly to show off and express their vampire nature with their hard hits and super speed.

"It's the American pastime," Edward replied. Karina hopped out of the vehicle, grabbing her silver aluminum bat, from the backseat and swinging it around as a short warm up, narrowly missing Bella's head as Edward placed a cap on her head.

"Plus, there's a thunderstorm coming. It's the only time we can play and you'll soon see why. Also, Karina, please try to refrain from swinging until we actually get on the field."

"Sorry!"

"Karina, how do you know my dad and when did you two start a first—name basis thing?" Bella questioned with a small laugh.

"Ever since Roman tried to burn the house trying to impress Alice with his cooking skills."

"I thought vampires didn't eat."

"We can but we'd have to it throw up. Roman has found happiness in cooking but he hasn't quite perfected it yet," she replied as Bella nodded slowly.
