Chapter 1: Life Changing
This is my first story that I am putting up on here for people to read. I think it's going to go really well. In the first chapter, Skai (pronounced sky), learns that her family is moving to a new town. She tries to cope with the news but encounters with attitudes from her brother and even from herself. I hope you guys enjoy.
School starts in about 4 weeks. I'm going to be a senior in high school and I couldn't be happier. I've been going to K.D High School since 9th grade and I love it here. I know almost everyone here and I'm co-captain of the cheerleading team. I have an awesome boyfriend who is the star player of the football team. I have 2 wonderful best friends and I make all A's and B's in my classes. I would say I have a perfect life here. Nothing can ruin my life right now........................
"Skai, we need to talk." my mom says as she enters my room. She has a worried look on her face and she seems to be shaking a little. The last time she looked like this was when she was telling me that her and my father was getting a divorce. "What about?" I ask. She sits on the edge of my bed. She looks around my pink walled room. Almost everything in my room was pink. "Well you know Joe and I have been dating for a while and I've been absolutely happy," she starts off. "But it's been a little difficult lately since he's been going out of town for work. It's only about an hour away and I'm sure you will still see your friends." she goes on. Did she really just say that? Is she saying what I think she's saying? "Mom, what are you getting at? You can't possibly think that moving because of your boyfriend's job, is a good idea!!" I can't believe she wants us to move! It's my senior year. I can't just leave my school, my friends, my cheerleading team, and my boyfriend. Oh God, Devin. I can't leave him! "Skai, think about it first. It can..." she begins. "No, mom! I don't want to move! I love it here!" I butt in. I refuse to leave my home of 4 years because of some man she met last year. "Look, Skai. You don't really have a choice. I told your brothers and sisters and they're coping with it. Now it's your turn. The house Joe has been renting for the job has 4 bedrooms. You can have your own room." "I already have my own room, HERE!" I felt like my life shattered right in front of me. She was serious about this. I could see it in her eyes. She played with the silver Pandora bracelet that Joe gave her on their one year anniversary two months ago. She smiled as the little hearts dangled from it. I wasn't smiling. "Why, mom, why? You're so selfish! You're only doing this for yourself. What about us? Did you even consider discussing this with us instead of just dropping this on us like this?" I asked. Tears began to fall down my face like a waterfall. I could barely breathe and now my nose is stopped up. "Skai, I have been doing everything I can to keep a roof over your heads, food in your mouths, and clothes on your backs. Don't you ever begin to say that I'm selfish." She yelled back at me. Her light brown skin was now turning red. "We are leaving on Saturday so start packing your things. Don't think about running away either because if I have to call the police to look for you, I will tell them to keep you when they find you. Make your choice." She got off my bed and walked out of my room.
Just when I had thought things were going so perfectly, she comes and messes it all up. How dare she change the lives of 5 people just so she can satisfy the life of two? I was still crying. Just laid there thinking about what I should do. What could I possibly do? I have no choice but to go. I hate this. I really hate this.
Shanette, one of my younger twin sisters came into my room. She looked just as sad as I did with tears rolling down her face. I could see that she had wiped her tears into her navy blue shirt. She walked over to me and plopped down on my bed next to me. She hugged me tightly and started crying again. I felt really bad for her. She had just started making new friends because she lost 20 pounds and gained confidence. She was bigger than Shanita, her twin, and kids made fun of her because of it. Now they were the same weight and looked like they were identical twins. It took her a very long time to start socializing with other kids and now she has to start all over again. I felt her pain through the loud cries she gave out. "It's gonna be okay, Shanette. Everything will be okay." I said. I really wasn't sure if it would be but I just want to see her happy.
