Chapter 24: Office duties

Eren's Pov (again):

"Ohayou, sleeping beauty"

I was awoken by a gentle kiss on my cheek. My eyes fluttered open to reveal a still tired looking Levi kneeling at the side of the bed, watching me slowly sit up. I stiffled a yawn and rubbed my sleepy eyes.

"Uah, what time is it?"

"You can go back to sleep Eren, I just wanted to say good bye for the day. I have a whole lot of shitty work waiting for me in my office, but I also have you waiting for me in my bedroom."

He smirked at me and I adverted my gaze in embarassement. Of course Levi had to chuckle at my flustered reaction and I halfheartedly reached out to slap his arm.

"Is that all I'm here for? Distraction from work?", I teased him, but the king took my face in his hand and I instinctivly nuzzled my cheek into his palm.

"You know you're so much more to me. And I promise you the time when we'll be able to spent the whole day together without having to care about anyone else will come, but for now I'll have to ask you to wait for me once again, until your life isn't on the line anymore. So, will you wait for me?"

"Of course I will! I'd wait for you forever if I had to!", I answered without having to think about it for even a second. The smile Levi gave me was warm and loving and everything I wanted and needed right now.

"Well then, see you in the evening, brat", Levi went back to my nickname, which ment his bad mood had lifted a bit. "Don't be to sad I'm away, I'll make sure to make it up to you", he winked at me and all I could do was murmuring a small "Bye Levi", as the king went off to his work.

I hated seeing him leave me every morning, but it was worth it. Levi was worth it. And I couldn't deny that the 'reward' I had got last night hadn't been enough to make up for the time I had to spend without him.

I would've liked to go and see Petra again, but after having experienced Levi's reaction on my little alone trip yesterday I decided that it would be a bad idea to leave the room again. I didn't want him to worry about me and even though I thought that he was overexaggerating a little, I couldn't deny that knowing out there was still somebody who was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to kill me definetly made me feel uneasy.

Now that I was already up I could as well do something usefull and finish the book I was currently reading. It was called 'Forget the past' and it was about the two Princes of two hostile kindoms who have to work together in order to survive. The book had a heartbreaking ending and even though I wasn't that much of a sentimental person I had to wipe a few tears from my eyes as I put the book aside. I looked around and spotted a tray with breakfast on the table next to the bed. Apparently I had been too distracted by the story to notice the servant that had brought it.

I had just finished eating when somebody kicked the door open, making me almost jump off the bed. Of course it was Hanji, who else would dare to just barge into the king's bedroom like this?

"Good morning Eren!", she chimed, her usal wide grin on her face.

"Hello Hanji, nice to see you", I greeted her and she skipped over to where I was sitting. She plopped herself down next to me and put one hand on my shoulder.

"Say Eren, what do you know about human anathomy?", she suddenly asked and I thought about her question for a few seconds.

"Not really much, I guess. I mean I know where my heart and my lungs and everything are, my father was a doctor after all, but other than that..", I shrugged. "Why are you asking me anyway? Does it have something to do with my abnormal fast healing?"
