Alexis POV (point of view)

I woke up with a harsh knock on the door. I quickly rose out of bed and opened the door. It was Dad. He looked like a zombie coming out of bed, his eyes unreadable.

"Come on, get ready. We're going to meet an old friend of mine." He said gruffly being very vague.

"Ok." Dad went downstairs. I grabbed my towel and clothes and hurried into the bathroom. I locked the door, got undressed and before I went into the shower, I walked past the mirror. I was a mess! Bruises everywhere I looked. I sighed. Why is my life so messed up? I stepped into the shower.

As I came out the shower, I was wearing my skinny jeans and my favourite t-shirt. I walked downstairs to see my dad taking a swig of his drink. Oh god I hope he's not too drunk! Walking into the kitchen, I checked the cupboard. Nothing... Guess I'll just have toast again. I looked into the bread bin. One bagel, that's it. Well, at least I'll get to eat something. As I munched on the bagel, the phone rang,

"Alexis, grab the phone."

"Ok. Hello. Who is it?"

"Hello. Is this Nathan?" a voice asked.

"No it's Alexis." I paused, "his daughter." I fought back the anger

"Oh, I'm sorry, I should have known. He talks about you a lot. So are you excited about coming over today?" I sighed,

"Dad only mentioned that we were going to visit an old friend but he didn't give any clues."

"Alexis, who is it?" Dad shouted from the living room.

"Well it's your old friend apparently."

"Well what you doing answering the phone? Hand it over then." I walked into the living room where Dad was. He had a bottle of Vodka, oh no! I carefully handed him the phone while he kept his eyes on football. He snatched it out of my hand and whispered to me, "Don't talk to my mates!" and pushed me back going back to his dialler. Jeesh he could have just said thank you.

Walking back into the kitchen, I heard a few bursts of laughter which wasn't often and was good to hear. At least he didn't lose that, I just wish he'd share that laughter with me. Just as I finished putting the last piece of my bagel in my mouth, I heard my dad shouting. I rushed into the living room to see what he wanted, chewing as fast as I could on the way.

"Alexis, come on. We need to be going now. He wants to see us quickly before he goes out and continues his work."

"Ok dad, let me just finish washing the things, then I'll come ok?" I turned going into the kitchen.

"No, we haven't got time for that." Dad grabbed my arm and pulled me out the door with me trying to put my shoes on.

"Wait dad, I've still got to put my shoes on.... dad wait." Dad let go of my hand long enough for me to put my shoes on,

"Hurry up Alexis; you're gonna slow us down."

As we walked alongside the road, I heard whistles and hoots from the other side of the road. I turned to look and there were those boys who are usually harassing girls walking from school. They were actually hooting at me!!! I turned my head so that they couldn't see my face.

"Hey girl wanna meet up with me later?" one shouted

"Naa, she'll dump you for me any day." Another shouted

"Yeah right bud, you're uglier than me." the first one shouted again.

The whistling and the shouting continued, I looked at the boys again. They were about my age and very hot! HOOTTTT! I quickly turned around again definitely embarrassed. The uproar suddenly died down, I looked up at my dad. Crap, he's giving them evils. We continued walking; I noticed we were coming closer to a remote area. There were hardly any cars on the road and the place looked deserted. I looked for signs of people, there was no-one. We kept on walking on the path and eventually got to an abandoned site where lots of people were working: building, collecting, moving, talking, and arguing. Me and Dad walked straight through not really bothering anyone, it was like they already knew & was expecting us. I was taking in the sight of recycled things when,
