I fidgeted uncomfortably as Will pulled out his equipment, but I was honestly too tired to argue. No doubt my fire would be back when I woke up, but for now I just managed a groan. I had to keep refocusing my eyes, I kept seeing double. Then I heard Will talk.
"Take off your shirt for me?" I know I mumbled something like "Dam you, Solace" and then did as he asked, wrapping my cold arms around my bare chest. He had to pry them off me. The cool metal of the stethoscope pressed against my skin, and the next thing I knew, I was asleep.
I didn't have any dreams, which scared me. It felt like the calm before the storm.
When I finally peeked one eye open, Will was standing near the bed, talking to someone. He held what looked like a cup of coffee.
"You haven't been sleeping, have you?"
"Uh.."
"Will, you of all people know how important that is!"
"I know. It's just been so long I can't help but worry."
"It's ok, Will. He'll be fine, believe me."
"Yeah. You're right. I'll see you, Piper."
"Bye. And don't stress, everything will work out!"
"Thanks!" He slumped as soon as she walked out the door and collapsed on the bed. I could see the dark circles under his eyes as he surveyed me, not realizing I was awake. I pretended not to be. He reached out and then I felt his fingers in my hair. He ran them through mindlessly. It actually felt good. He continued to play with my hair until I felt bad for keeping him waiting and stirred and opened my eyes. Wills hand retracted quickly and he dropped his coffee.
"Oh, shoot." He muttered. "Are you really awake?"
"Hello to you to, Sunshine." I grumbled, fixing my bed head and sitting up. I swear he beamed at the nickname. "How long was I out? Couple hours?"
"Oh, yeah, yeah, couple hours. 336 to be exact!!" His arms waved wildly. "Do you have any idea how scared I was?! You could've died! You could've dissolved." Wills voice weakened at the end. I was dumbfounded. I was asleep for.. how long was that? Two weeks? I mean, I'm a heavy sleeper, but I usually only sleep for 2 or 3 days, at most! I frowned.
"Sorry?" I shrugged.
"You should be. If you had died, I don't know what I would've done." He scolded. What did he mean by that?
"So, if it has been two weeks.. does that mean I can leave?" I had only consciously been in this room for a couple hours, and I was sick of the white glare already.
"Uh uh uh." Will waved his finger at me. "No siree. You've only been conscious for a little while, so you still have three more days." I groaned and started to get up. "Where do you think you're going?" Will cocked an eyebrow.
"Um, I'm leaving." I stated, then realizing my chest was bare, I grabbed my shirt from off the chair across the room and slipped it on. Will frowned and walked over to me, pausing directly in front of me. He was inches away, his eyebrows furrowed and biting his lip.
"No you're not. You're staying here for three more days. And then, if you're healthy enough, you can leave and stay in your cabin. But no shadow traveling or summoning the dead or underworldly magic in general. Am I clear?" I was taken aback by his words, once again. He was maybe the only person who wasn't scared of me, and had enough nerve to order me around. I threw my hands up in surrender, and replied, "Clear as crystal." Clear as his eyes, more like. Wait, what?
"Good." His face slipped back into that easy trademark smile, but this time it wasn't forced. "If it makes it easier I can stay with you whenever you want company."
"Whatever, Sunshine. You have patients that need you more right now." In truth, I did really want him to stay, but there were actually a lot of people who needed help.
"I'm the head medic. My siblings will take care of them, if they need me, they'll call." He shrugged and sat on the bed. "So what do you want to do?"
