I dropped to my knees under Wills weight, then rested him on my lap.
"Will?" I shook him gently. His eyes were closed and his breathing was rapid. I felt his forehead. It was burning, just like before. I sharply pulled my hand away and blew on it to cool it down. This couldn't be good. I stood up, swinging Will over my shoulder. Yes, he was bigger than me. But I was strong, years of fighting didn't amount to nothing. I speed walked to the infirmary. Percy was sitting in there when I burst in, his arm being bandaged by one of Wills siblings. I lay him on a cot.
"Help," I gasped. "Something's happened to him." My voice came out strangled with worry. Percy was the first one to run to my side. He looked at Will and touched his forehead. Then he pulled back and put his hand on his chest. When his face tilted up to me, it was twisted with confusion.
"It's... poison. It's poison. I would get it out, I could get it out, but it's too deep. It's too- how is it so deep already? It just happened. This isn't normal. This is... something else." His words hit me like a punch, and I fell to my knees again. No... there had to be a cure. And who poisoned him? The last thing that happened was... no..
"Jason." I muttered. The image of his golden eyes flashed in my mind.
"What?" Percy looked taken aback.
"Where is he?" I growled.
"His.. cabin. I saw him going there a couple minutes ago." Percy responded. I shot to my feet and burst out of the infirmary, my black hair fluttering in front of my face. People were looking at me when I ran by, but I didn't care. I had to stop Jason. My feet slid outside his cabin, and I let out another growl. Jason turned calmly, and gave me a chilling smile. His eyes gleamed.
"You poisoned him." I stated.
"Yes, I did." He seemed pleased with himself.
"How did you get in here?" I asked the eidolon.
"No matter. I am here now, and my friends are coming soon enough."
"Why did you do it?"
"Oh, easy. Taking out the head medic first, then the other ones one by one, that would put the camp in danger when I destroy the rest of you!" He snarled the last words and lunged at me. I ducked instinctively, rolling between his legs and landing on one knee. His frown deepened and he reached over to his weapon. The coin sat on the floor next to his bed. I lunged and intercepted, knocking him backwards. He growled and tried to push himself up, but I pressed myself against him, keeping him down. Then I screamed.
"Piper!" She was the only one I knew who could rid these things. "PIPER!" My voice strained. She still didn't come. "PI-" Jason laughed, then his head flopped back and hit the ground. Piper ran in, stopping at the door. Her eyes were wild with worry. "Pip-" I started again, but this time I was cut off by something else. It rushed through me and I closed my eyes. A cold, tingling sensation touched my neck. I stood up and cracked my knuckles. I felt.. new. My vision was tinted gold, fresh. At the same time, I knew it was wrong. Stop! I told myself. You have to stop! Don't let it control you! Will needs you! You have to cure him! I cut myself off. "Well, well, well." I snarled to Piper. Here eyes widened, then squinted in recognition.
"You. Get out of my friends body, now." She spoke with such power that I fought the urge to do exactly that.
"And why would I do that?" I felt my mouth move.
"Because I'm telling you to. Now, go. Get out, and never come back." I could feel the rush inside of me as I fell, knocking back next to Jason. As quickly as it had happened it was gone, and I shot up. I explained the whole situation to Piper, then prepared myself for the infirmary. My stomach was tied in knots at the thought of Will, lying almost dead, on the cot where I left him. But what could I do to save him? I was no doctor, he was. I fingered the necklace I wore around my neck. It was the one he gave me. It was glowing- how was it glowing? I burst out of the Zeus cabin and jogged over to Will in the infirmary. Percy was still sitting over him, pressing a cool, wet cloth to his burning forehead. I shuddered. My eyes focused on his, closed and pressed tightly, as if he was angry or hurt. Then he relaxed his face, and I heard it for the first time.
