I rubbed my eyes and sat up. Will had sat with me and we had talked until I fell asleep again. He was worried, but I had assured him that I would be up in the morning. He said he'd visit me- where was he? Wait, that's not right. He probably had real patients to attend to. There were a lot of people in the infirmary, after all. He has a lot to do. And he wouldn't want to spend the little free time his does have with me. I mean, no one does, right? Yeah. I'm just a patient to him. The door opened. Oh. He was here. I pretended to be asleep. His brow furrow edge in worry, so I stirred and blinked slowly. His face relaxed. He was wearing a blue tank top and shorts, his curly hair was gleaming in the sunlight. He held two plates in one hand, drinks in the other. He sat down on the end of the bed and I shifted so I was sitting too.
"Morning, Death Boy." I glared at him.
"Don't call me that."
"I got you breakfast." He said, still beaming. "Well, not really, but I got you a plate and cup because I didn't really know what you wanted." He put them on my lap. "And I figured you wouldn't want to eat alone, so I'm gonna stay with you." He said all this without pausing to take a breath.
"Um, thanks."
"It's nice outside. You want to go later?"
"Not really. Too bright for me."
"You know, you should get at least 10 minutes of sunshine a day."
I thought up a small fruit salad and a glass of water. He frowned at my choice. "You really should eat more."
"No thanks."
"I'm serious, that's unhealthy."
"I'm fine." Will shook his head and took the plate back. When he returned it, it was filled with pancakes, fruit, and eggs. I groaned and threw my head back.
"Eat. Doctors orders." I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Fine." I started eating. I must've been hungrier than I thought, because I almost finished what was on the plate. Almost. I got up and raced to the bathroom. Will stood, alarmed. I immediately threw up in the toilet, and then he was behind me, rubbing my back and comforting me. Every now and then I heard an "I'm so sorry," or "it's my fault". I wanted to reassure him that it wasn't, but I didn't know how. When I finally stood, I was shaky.
"What happened?" I asked him. He pondered for a moment, then took a sideways glance at me.
"How often do you eat?"
"You know, once or twice. A week." He sighed in disapproval.
"Nico... don't you know how... never mind. Your body's not used to eating so much at one time, I should've known. I'm sorry. But I will fix this. We'll have you up and healthy in no time!" He brightened. "Just a few weeks." My heart sank. Why? I shouldn't feel like that.
"Will- I don't think I'm staying that long." His face contorted.
"What the Hades do you mean?! You better stay that long, or at least long enough to get better! I swear, Di Angelo, if you even consider shadow traveling.." I laughed.
"Okay, okay. I'll stay." I didn't know why I was feeling this way. I felt like- I actually wanted to make him happy. He muttered something.
"What?"
"You're laugh's nice. You should do it more often." He said a bit louder. I heated up and turned away.
"I hate it."
"Why?" I shrugged.
"It's stupid."
"No it's not. It's bubbly and cheery, and you look like you could light up the world with it." His face reddened at his words and he backed towards the door. "I- uh, should go. Not that I don't want to hang out with you, it's just- Places to be, people to see." He gave me a sheepish grin and left. I could feel myself smiling and tried to cover it up. I looked outside. It was my second day. One day left and I was out of this hell hole. Well, not a literal hell hole, I'd prefer this to that any day. I wondered if Will would still talk to me when I left. I fell back onto the bed, bored out of my mind. My hair fell out of my eyes.
"You totally do." I heard voices through the wall, and out of boredom and curiosity, scooted closer.
"I do not!" That was Will, I knew that voice anywhere.
"Uh huh. Sure." Ohh. Piper.  She and Will were pretty good friends, I guessed.
"I'm serious, Piper, I don't!"
"Stop denying, Will, tell me the truth." She teased.  I caught a little bit of charmspeak in her words. Then I heard a sigh.
"Alright, fine, you got me. I do like him."  Him?
Who? I knew it wasn't right to eavesdrop, but I was really curious now.
"See? That wasn't so hard.  In fact, I'll bet he likes you too!"  Will snorted.
"Sure, sure."
"Trust me! There are hearts in his eyes when he looks at you, underneath that mop of black hair." She laughed.  Black hair? Who had black hair? I felt bad then, and turned around.  I leaned against the wall and slid down so that I was crouching, blocking the conversation from my mind.
