He didn't come back for 8 days. 8 days! What a drama queen! In the meantime, I worked in the infirmary to keep my mind off it. He was so stupid! Did he actually think... well... he did save me. Maybe I was the one who was stupid. Maybe I needed to apologize. I nodded firmly to myself, my mouth pressed into a strict line. I would. Now he just needed to come back. I knew what I would say. I turned on my heel and left the infirmary, not even taking note that the sun was setting. I walked into the strawberry fields and lay in the bushes, staring at the sky. All of a sudden, something shifted next to me. I jumped, and then the son of Hades was sitting next to me, looking amused. I grumbled something about giving warning, and he laughed, then his expression darkened.
"Solace.." I took a breath.
"Nico I'm really really sorry I didn't mean anything I said and I was wrong you saved me so thank you and I didn't really want you to go to hell.." I looked down and started fidgeting with a leaf.
"It's okay. If anything, I should be sorry. I'm sorry I said all of that, I was just angry and over dramatic and I shouldn't have gone." I looked up. My hand slid over his, and he didn't break the contact. We stared into the night. Then he rested his head on my shoulder. My heart pounded. Woah.
I don't remember falling asleep. I just know that when I woke up, Piper was standing over us, holding back a laugh.
"Have a nice night?" She teased. My hair was messy from sleeping on the ground, and I was wearing yesterday's clothes. Nico was asleep next to me, his head still resting on my shoulder. I blushed violently.
"Nico. Wake up." I whispered to him, shaking him gently. His eyes fluttered open and went wide as soon as he saw me.
"Shoot." He sat up quickly, running his fingers through his hair. His face was also red, but he hid it in his hands. Then he glared at Piper, who had her hand over her mouth, but her eyes showed her smile.
"You tell anyone and you are dead, got it?" He narrowed his eyes at her and she nodded, then laughed and walked away, winking. I stood up and smiled sheepishly.
"We should probably get going." He nodded and we walked back to the pavilion, where the campers were already gathering for breakfast. I quickly fixed my hair and went over to my table.
"Will, bro, where were you last night?" My brother, Austin, came up to me.
"Stayed a little late at the infirmary. Must've fallen asleep there." I shrugged, and he nodded. That wasn't uncommon for me, being head medic and all.
"Dude, you need to relax." I rolled my eyes playfully.
"I'm fine, there was just a lot to do."
"If you say so." Austin shrugged. Then a pair of hands slammed down on the table in front of me and I looked up, startled. Cecil Markowitz, my best friend, was standing in front of me, laughing.
"You should see your face!" I laughed, too. I hadn't seen him in a while, and it felt good to be so relaxed.
"Hey, Cecil. What's up?"
"Nothing with me. My minds run dry of pranks to play and I haven't seen you around in ages. What's up with you?"
"Working, archery classes, the usual." I shrugged.
"Oh, come on! There's gotta be something taking up your time. Or.. someone?" Cecil wiggled his eyebrows. I laughed it off. He didn't know the half of it. "Ok, Will, who is she?"
"I swear, it's no one!"
"I'm not taking that as an answer." He grinned.
"Well, you're gonna have to, because there is not a single girl on my mind." It was true, there wasn't. He sighed dramatically and sat down next to me, not paying any mind to the rules.
"Fine." There was a mischievous glimmer in his eyes. I grinned and looked over at the Hades table. Nico sat alone, not eating. He fiddled with the skull ring on his finger for a while before looking around and leaving. I sighed as the butterflies fluttered in my stomach. Should I tell him? No, he probably didn't feel the same way. But if he did, how would I know? That's it. I was going to tell him. Cecil waved a hand in front of my face.
"Will? Will? Earth to Will? Hello?" I blinked and looked at him.
"Sorry Cecil, just thinking."
