Melanie POV

My eyes opened and I immediately knew what day it was. It was my 16th birthday! I threw my comforter off my body and jumped up. I grabbed my phone and checked my notifications. No texts from Dax, Levi, or Jack. My eyebrows knotted in confusion. Why has no one texted me, did they forget?

I opened my closet and took one of my nice dresses off its hanger. I put it on gracefully and walked into my bathroom. I took my hair curler from the cabinet and plugged it in. While waiting for it to heat up, I went ahead and did my makeup. Finally, the curler heated up enough, so I began to curl my brownish-blonde hair.

I finished about 30 minutes later. I ran my fingers through my hair to loosen the curls a tad. My outfit was on-point and so was my hair and makeup. Glancing back down at my phone screen, I saw still no one had texted me happy birthday. I sighed in frustration and walked out of my room, towards the kitchen.

The stairs creaked under my weight as I creeped down them. I smelled something amazing coming from the kitchen. I also heard some commotion that sounded like whispering and shuffling feet. On the last step, I took a deep breath; taking in the sadness that hung above me. I stepped off the stair and walked into the kitchen, spotting only my mother cooking.

She looked up from her mixing bowl of who-knows-what and said cheerfully, "Hey, sweetie! How are you this morning?"

I sighed loudly and replied , "Fine.....I guess."

My mom looked at me and cocked her head, "Well, what's wrong? Please tell me,"

I saw down on the bar stool and explained, "Well, I woke up and saw no one had texted me 'good morning' or 'happy birthday', I kinda understood because it was like 7:00. Then, after I got ready; I checked my phone for messages again . Still nothing. At this point, I was pissed. Like, how do you forget someone's birthday?!"

She looked at me and trialed, "I understand, but you never know what suprises may be around the corner......"

I raised my eyebrow and muttered, "Uh-huh,"

My mom shrugged her shoulders and passed me a plate of Belgian waffles. I poured syrup on the waffles and began to eat them slowly. But, before I could get a third bite in, I felt a pair of arms wrap themselves around me. I figured it was Levi, so I called, "Levi?"

To my suprise, the voice that answered was deeper than Levi's, "Nope, try again."

I suddenly realized who it was and asked again, "Dax?"

The figure kissed my neck and answered, "Yep."

I gasped and jumped up, smiling gleefully that instead of texting me; he came to my house. He opened his arms and I flung myself into them. Dax squeezed me tightly while chuckling. I peeled myself off him; instead giving him a quick peck on the lips. He had a face flushed with a light pink, he was so cute.

He regained his composure and grabbed the small of my back and said sincerely, "Happy Birthday, babe."

I blushed and said, "Thanks, babe," I thought, "You know, I was pretty mad that not a single person had said happy birthday to me, but this definately made up for it."
