Clary's POV

"So, what's up with the bed rest?" He asked, stealing a fry from me.

"Well, I have Congenital Heart Disease, so pregnancy is a very risky thing for me and the baby. At my check up yesterday, I had a heart murmur, so they sentenced me to bed rest until I go into labor. Which could be anytime now. My due date is in two days." He nodded.

"Has the disease ever given you a problem before this?"

"Um, yeah. I had a heart transplant when I was three. And since then, I've only had a few scares."

"Wow. That's a lot to go through at three years old." I nodded. "What was your childhood like after that?" I paled.

"I'm not talking about my childhood. It wasn't a good one." Sebastian popped into my head and I immediately tried to get him out.

"Okay. What do you like to do for fun?" I smiled at this one.

"Video games, reading and working."

"Where do you work?"

"Art gallery. I go to the gallery and I get to do what I love most. Painting."

"So, you're an artist?" I nodded. "Can I see some of your work?" I grabbed my other phone and went to my pictures, showing him the album of my many different paintings that have been shown in the gallery.

"Where do you work?" I asked.

"Well, I just started law school, so I'm working part time at my father's law firm. Mainly just doing a shit ton of paperwork." He continued to scroll through my paintings as he laid flat on my bed, on Reid's side of the bed. "This one's pretty. I like it."

"One of my favorites." I smiled. He kept scrolling and my lips parted as he stumbled upon the sonogram pictures from my last visit.

"What's the gender? Do you know?" I shook my head. Liar. I do know.

"We don't have to talk about the situation." I said and he nodded.

"You're okay with me being a deadbeat? Not being in it's life?" He asked softly.

"I have more than enough people to help me, Jace. You're not a deadbeat, I'm letting you off the hook." He nodded.

"Thank you." I turned up the tv and we both turned our attention to that.

Jace's POV

We went through three movies and as I looked to Clary, she was asleep, cuddled into her pillow. I smiled and pulled the comforter up to her neck.

Do I really want to leave her? And my child? She knows the gender, but I figured that she didn't tell me so that I wouldn't get attached. In case I do leave the both of them.

"Clare, baby, look at-" Two guys walked in, ceasing their talking as they noticed her asleep. "Who the hell are you? It's Izzy's shift." The younger one said and I got out of bed, the three of us heading out to the hallway, not wanting to wake Clary.

"Um, Izzy had to leave, I'm her brother, Jace. Clary and I watched a few movies and she fell asleep. Who are you two?"

"I'm her dad and this is her brother. You can go now, if you want. We've got Clare, it's our shift." I nodded.

"Okay. Let me grab my shoes and my jacket and I'll get going." I did exactly that and caught a cab back home.

God, what am I gonna do?

Clary's POV

I woke up at around noon the next day, no longer seeing Jace beside me. I couldn't help the bit of hurt that spread through me. He left us.

"Clare? You awake?" I rolled over to see my dad in the doorway. "Good." He came to lay with me, where Jace was last night. "Just wanted to make sure you were feeling okay." I nodded.

"I'm fine, just a little hungry." He sat up.

"What would you like to eat? Name it and it's yours." I smiled at his enthusiasm.

"Taki's?" He sighed. "Sorry, it's just my number one craving."

"Fine. I'll be back in an hour or so." I nodded. "I'll have Jon make you a ham sandwich to hold you over until I get back."

"Thank you, daddy." He smiled and kissed my forehead before standing up.

"You're welcome, baby girl. Love you."

"Love you, too." He left my room and I sat up against the headboard. Hours later, Jon was asleep on the couch downstairs and I was watching tv in my bed. Dad had to run to the store to get a few things.

"Clare, Clare, Clare." Simon ran in, looking so excited he could probably die. "Gotta tell you something." I nodded and set my popcorn on the table.

"Okay. Continue." He jumped on my bed and sat on his knees beside me.

"You know that ring you helped me buy last month?" I smiled, nodding.

"Yeah...."

"I proposed tonight at dinner and she said yes!" I squealed and he hugged me tightly.

"Finally! You two are perfect for each other. I'm so happy for you, Si!" I exclaimed and Izzy ran in, struggling in her tall heels.

"Damn it! You got to her first!" Izzy whined and I laughed, motioning for her to come hug me. Which she happily did.

"Congratulations, Iz. You've hooked the most loyal man in town." I whispered in her ear, making her giggle.

"I know. And I'm so happy about it." She pulled away and wiped at her smeared make-up.

Suddenly I got this small pain in my belly and felt like I was peeing myself. "Uh, Si?"

"What?"

"I think my water just broke." His eyes went wide at my words.

"Okay. Okay, we got this! Iz, you get her out to the car, I'll grab the bags and the carseat!" Izzy helped me stand up and put me in a pair of sweatpants as Simon ran downstairs.

"You gotta call my dad, he went to the store." I said as she grabbed my slippers and helped me down the stairs.

"I got it, babe." Jon stood at the bottom of the stairs and picked me up bridal style, carrying me out to the car.

*Fourteen Hours Later*

"One more push! You've got this, Clary. One, two, three, push!" I pushed as hard as I could one more time and finally heard my baby's shrill cry.

"You did so good, princess." Dad kissed my forehead as I tried to catch my breath.

"Here's your beautiful baby girl." The nurse handed her to me and I cried at the sight. Just the feeling of holding her in my arms made me happier than I've ever been before.

"My little girl." I kissed her head as she stirred in my arms.

"She looks just like you." Dad said from beside me. "Does she have a name yet?" I nodded, smiling down at my baby.

"Lily Grace Morgenstern."
