Clary's POV
"Hello?" I answered my phone as it rang.
"Clary, I am so sorry, I can't make it today. I can't give you a valid reason why, but I am sorry, I just have something important to do." My nanny just hung up on me.
"Fuck." I whispered and set Lily down on the couch, turning on the tv and Team UmiZumi coming on for her.
"What's wrong?" Jace asked.
"Nanny just bailed, need a babysitter." I sat down on the couch and thought of who I could call.
Magnus and Alec are working, along with my dad, Jon, Simon and Izzy. Basically everyone I trust to watch my daughter.
"My mom and dad are free." I looked over at Jace.
"They can watch her?"
"Yeah. Do you want me to tell them that we're on our way?"
"Yes, thank you." He nodded and texted them back while I filled up the diaper bag with snacks and extra drinks.
"Mind if I hitch a ride with you to my parents' house?"
"I don't care." I grabbed my bag and Lily's before turning off the tv, picking her up and we all left the house.
I locked up the house and buckled Lily into her carseat in the backseat. We drove off and I turned on the radio to lessen the awkwardness of Jace and I's awkward silence.
We finally got to his parents' mansion and I got the sleeping beauty from the backseat and Jace got the diaper bag.
"We're in here!" Maryse yelled and we wandered into the living room, seeing her and Robert on the couch reading seperate books.
"Good morning, Clary." I smiled at Robert.
"Good morning. Thank you guys for watching her today, it's only for a few hours, but I have an important appointment to be at and the nanny bailed." Jace walked down the hallway and into the bathroom.
"Oh, don't worry about it, sweetie. You know that we love to babysit this little angel. Our granddaughter." I sighed at Maryse's words.
"I-I'm sorry for not telling you about that, I just knew Izzy would hate him if she found out that he didn't step up when I told him that I was pregnant. I did want to tell you-"
"Clary, it's okay. We understand. You invited us to be in her life, even if it wasn't as her grandparents and I thank you for that." I smiled and nodded.
"Thank you." I looked at the clock on the wall for the time. "Shit. I have to go." Maryse took Lily from me and sat back down, her cradling Lily as she still sleeps soundly.
"What kind of appointment is so important? You're not sick or anything, right?" Robert asked and I shook my head.
"No, nothing like that. Um, it's therapy. Recent events have caused me to need it again, so I made an appointment. It's not something I want to miss."
"Therapy, huh?" Jace walked back in and I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, Jace, therapy. I need it."
"Why?"
"That's none of your fucking business. I told you that earlier."
"Why can't you just tell me?"
"Because it's none of your fucking business." I leaned down and kissed Lily's head. "I should be back in a few hours. Thank you for watching her." Maryse nodded.
"Of course. Get to your appointment, we'll be fine here."
"Bye." I pushed past Jace and walked to my car, getting in and driving to my psychiatrist's office.
He was still in with another patient, so I sat in the waiting room, scrolling through Facebook on my phone.
"Clary, come on in." I looked up at Dr. Benjamin Jackson, my psychiatrist of five years now.
"Thanks." I walked in and sat down on the couch while he sat down in an armchair, his notebook and pen at the ready.
"Alright, so where would you like to start?"
"I got a call from my mother last night."
"Really?" I nodded. "What happened?"
"She apologized, wanted me to forgive her. I told her that she ruined my life and I wished she had died in prison. Which is true."
"How did you feel when she called you?"
"Scared, angry. If she knew my cell number, how do I know that she doesn't know where I live, or where I work? How do I know that she hasn't told him where I live?"
"You don't. But, you need to remember that your dad and Jonathan will protect you. If not emotionally, then physically. They love you, always remember that."
"I know that. I just can't get the fear out of my head. Of Sebastian finding me again. I'm miserable and I don't know what I can do to help myself." I fought back the tears.
Before I knew it, my time was up and I was standing to leave.
"I'm going to prescribe your old medicine for you again. I think you need it." I nodded.
"Okay. Which ones?"
"The anti-depressants and the anxiety medicine. You should be able to pick it up tomorrow morning."
"Thank you. I'll see you next week."
"Goodbye, Clary."
"Bye." I made it back out to my car and headed back to Maryse and Roberts' house.
It had been about a three hour appointment, so it was just a little past noon when I walked inside their house.
"Mama!" I smiled and set my bag down as Lily wobbled over to me. I picked her up and kissed her forehead.
"Pretty Princess." We walked into the living room and Jace sat on the floor, a pink tiara atop his head and a pink fluffy boa around his neck, making me laugh.
"Hey, I didn't do this. That crazy child did this." He chuckled and stood up as Maryse and Robert walked out of the kitchen with a plate full of cookies.
"Hi, Clary. How was your appointment?" Maryse asked and I sat down on the rug with Lily in my lap.
"It went okay. My therapist put me back on my meds."
"What kind of medicine?" Jace asked.
"Anti-depressants and anxiety meds."
"Are you okay?" I nodded.
"I'm fine." Robert handed me two cookies and I gave one to Lily while I ate the other.
"You don't seem fine."
"Jace, leave her alone. She clearly doesn't want to talk about it." I smiled slightly at Robert.
"Clary, I think you should start coming to our family dinners once a week." Maryse's words kind of surprised me.
"Family dinners?"
"Yeah. I mean, you're practically family already and Lily just makes it official. What do you say?"
"What day is it?"
"Every Thursday at six o'clock."
"We'll be there." She smiled brightly.
"I'm glad."
The rest of the day, we just hung out and played with Lily. It was nice. They really were like family to me now.
Except for Jace......
