8 o'clock rolled around.
Then 9.
Then 11.
I'm not idiot, by the time 8:30 rolled around I knew he wasn't coming. He didn't even have the decency to call and cancel. Changing from my dress to my Pokémon pajama pants and t-shirt I walk down stairs and curl up on the couch. "I wonder if anyone is still up right now."
Looking over at the clock I realize it's midnight meaning all but one of my friends is asleep right now and that's Ryder. Knowing him he won't answer his phone after his swim meet because like his sister he'll go to bed immediately.
Blowing air out of my mouth I rack my brain for any other person who could be awake at this time. A person floats into my head as I reach for my phone to call him. "I almost forgot Parker is on the swim team too." I chuckle.
The line rings for a minute until a click is heard from the other line. "Hello?" his groggy voice comes through the phone and instantly I'm filled with guilt for waking him up. "Crap. I'm sorry Parker I didn't know you were sleep. I'll call again la-"
Shuffling on the other end cuts me off and I can assume he's sitting up in his bed. "Mani what's wrong?"
Mani? Since when has anyone ever called me Mani? For some strange reason his personal nickname for me makes a smile spread across me face.
"What makes you think anything is wrong?"
"You haven't called me just Parker all day. Unless you're introducing me to someone." he says quickly "so what's wrong?"
Closing my eyes I fall back on the couch easily visualizing his face twisted with concern as he leans against the head of the bed.
"Well my dear friend Park, I got stood up tonight." I say hiding any trace of disappointment in my voice. It's not worth being disappointed about anyways, not like I'm too surprised.
"Wait Eli never came to get you for your date?" His voice is full of disbelief and a hint of anger. He sounds completely different on the phone. His deep voice much richer almost lulling me to sleep with every word, and the raspiness in his voice just makes it even sexier than usual.
"Nope. No text or call. He said he'd be here at eight and he never showed." Sighing I look up at the ceiling in the silent empty house.
My mom works as a nightshift nurse at the hospital and doesn't usually get back until five on the weekdays and twelve on weekends. Meaning I won't see her until twelve tomorrow.
"Are you okay?"
There's the golden question. Am I really okay with what happened tonight?
Laughing softly another sigh passes through my lips. "I'd like to think I am, but I can't help but feel disappointed. It's like he offered me a sugary sweet and colorful lollipop only to keep it for himself in the end." I can hear him chuckle at my analogy on the other end and a smile crosses my face.
I really like his laugh.
"Well in my opinion lollipops are over rated. What you should've got was gummy bears." Laughing at his attempt to cheer me up I can't help but feel thankful he's the one I called.
"I think you're right. Better yet, why don't you bring me some gummy bears Park?" I tease.
"Sure text me your address."I stop and sit up on the couch. He can't be serious?
"I am. My mom went out to visit family after my meet so I'm home alone. As long as I don't get chased off by your parents I'll bring you gummy bears."
