Chapter 6
A hand slammed down onto my desk, waking me out of my thoughts and making me shriek out of surprise. The rest of the class laughed, making a blush creep on to my cheeks. I was sitting down in 3rd period advanced english, thinking about the night before. How strange Devon seems, i thought. He acts all nice when we meet eachother, turns nasty and sarcastic when i see him at Will's, acts all sweet when i wake up and then starts getting mad at random things! I rolled my eyes, looking up at Mr. Morris. Bipolar.
"Kayla, did you just roll your eyes at me" Mr. Morris said in a sharp tone, glaring at me.
"I...no, Mr Morris." I replied in a polite tone.
"Then what did I just say." he asked, testing if i was listening. I wasn't, so i had to think of something.
"I... uh... well, you said.... Kayla did you just roll your eyes at me?" I asked, looking up to him with a hopeful smile.
"Talking back to teacher." Mr Morris said with grimace. "Kayla, I'm going to have to write you up a referral to the office." He said.
"What? But Mr. Morris, thats not fair!" I protested. I had a perfect record!
"What's done is done." Mr. Morris said in that monotonous voice of his.
Well I'm going to have to write you up a referral to hell, I thought. The class made "Oooooh" sounds. Mr. Morris glared at me. "Oh crap! Did I just say that out loud?" Mr. Morris just shook his head.
"Kayla, I don't know what has gotten into you, you're usually my top student. Now I advise you to get out of my classroom and go to the office." Mr. Morris said in a barely controled tone.
"What? No, Mr. Morris, you don't understand! I can't go to the-" Mr. Morris cut me off.
"Get. Out. Now." He said, clenching his teeth, his face turning red. I recognised that face. He was about to blow. He pointed to the door, and I trudged off, out of the classroom and down the hall. When I arrived to the office, I hesitated to go in. I paused at the doorway, and then I walked through. The secretary smiled at me. "Hi, Kayla! you lose your library card again? I've got it right here." She said, pulling it out of the drawer.
"Um.. Well yeah.. but um... thats not exactly why i am here.." I stammered. "Mr. Morris sent me to the office." I said, ducking my head in shame. Her smile vanished.
"Well why would he do that? I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding." She said.
"Well, actually, I kind of swore at him." I said. I felt like curling up under a rock and staying there for 10 years.
"Oh, I see." The secretary said. She winked at me. "It's that time of the month again?" She said, bursting out laughing. I was mortified, especially when I heard someone else laughing behind me. I spun around, and there was Devon holding an ice pack to his eye. I ran over to him.
"Oh my god, what happened?" I questioned. "And why are you here?"
"Well," Devon said. "I may have gotten into a fist fight with one of the students, and I'm waiting for my mom to pick me up. But enough of that. Why are you here?"
"Well," I said. "I may have told the teacher that i was going to write him up a referral to hell." I said, peeking up at Devon through my hair. He burst out laughing.
"High five!" he said, holding up his hand.
"What?" I said, confused. "Why would I give you a high five? thats awful!"
"Yeah," Devon said, looking like he was explaining something to a preschooler. "But how did it feel?" a smile creeped onto my face, as i relived the momry.
"It felt awesome." I said, slapping my palm to his.
