The next afternoon, I was ready to finally leave the hospital and go back home. I have been away from my house for way too long; almost a month! My friends were coming home with me, and Jason was too. My mom was downstairs by the front desk signing me off, while Amelia helped me get dressed into a pair of sweatpants and a shirt my mom brought me from my house.
"So, how does it feel to go back home?" She asked.
"I am so glad that I'm going home! I missed my room." I admitted, while sitting down in my bed and putting on my Mary-Jane-style purple crocs.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!" I said.
The person said, "your mom asked me to call you down. She finished paying and signing you off."
I looked up and saw Jason by the door holding his hand out to me. I stood up from the bed and walked towards him. He wrapped his arms around me in a tight but reassuring hug. I hugged him back just as tight.
"Uh, lovers?" Amelia awkwardly said. Jason and I looked up. "I'm still here." She said and pointer her two index fingers towards her head.
The two of us awkwardly stepped away from each other, but he grabbed my hand and led me downstairs. Amelia followed behind. We stepped inside the elevator, and went down towards the main floor.
Once the elevator doors opened, my mom was standing by the front desk talking with Dr. Jacobs. Hmm. Weird but okay. I shrugged it off and walked towards them.
"Hey." I said.
My mom looked at me and enveloped me in a hug with one arm around my shoulders. "Hey, honey. Are you ready to go?"
"I think so." I said.
"Awesome." She said. "Well, Richard, thank you once more for taking care of my daughter."
"My pleasure, Christine. Now, please remember to give her tylenol if she ever gets a headache, and if the headache becomes severe and lasts for a minimum of two days, let her come back here for a check-up. And, because she still seems a little confused about her name, call her 'Natasha' for the next two days. After those two days, try to call her a nickname and if she still seems confused then continue calling her name for two days."
"I will. Thank you." My mom nodded. She let me go, and was about to walk away to the door when Dr. Jacobs pulled her back by grabbing her hand slightly.
"One more thing though," He said. My mom looked at him curiously. "If you are free this Saturday night, I would really like to take you out...on a date. Could it be possible? If you think it's too weird then just forget about it, don't worry--"
"I would like to, Richard. Yes." She gladly nodded.
"Great. So, I'll pick you up at...seven?"
"Sure. I'll see you Saturday night."
"Great. See you Saturday night." He said.
She walked away with a smile on her face, and my friends, Jason and I followed behind to get inside the silver TOYOTA Sequoia. I was sitting in the front, beside my mom while she drove her car. We were now driving away from the hospital and over to our house.
"So, mom, since when do you personally know Dr. Jacobs?" I asked her casually.
"I just met him when you came to the hospital, why?" She simply answered.
"Okay, and why are you suddenly going to date him?"
"Because he invited me and I figured it was rude to say no."
