Just two weeks after my mom had a date with Mr. "I'm-A-Doctor-But-You-Can-Call-Me-Richard-And-I-Would-Like-To-Take-You-Out-On-A-Date", the two of them have been, strangely, keeping in touch more than my mom has ever done before with any man. After that date a Saturday ago, he took her the following Monday to the movies to watch "The Vow". Tuesday, they went to have dinner at The Cheesecake Factory, but because the restaurant was too full, they ended up going to the Thai restaurant in front. Wednesday, they went to the Space Needle restaurant, during the sunset! Thursday, my mom decided to stay at home and finally acknowledge her children. Friday, though, Richard took her to the movies once more. This time, they watched "This Is War", with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. Then, last Saturday they both went to have a coffee on Starbucks, just as a regular date where, according to my mom who now seemed completely love drunk, they talked about their ambitions in life and what they want to acquire before they retire. Surprisingly, when she talked to my brother and I during our weekly Skype chat with my sister who's in Italy the next day, she really seemed to enjoy talking about him.
Even though they have been dating for a week and a half, they have been talking non-stop through the phone. My mom promised to introduce us to him sometime in the near future. Very near future. To say the truth, I don't really want to meet the doctor who was with me during the comma I went through, because I fainted after seeing my dad on the airport about a month ago.
Either way, the Friday after the weekly-dates my mom had, my friends and I were so excited to be able to go to the Titanic 3D streaming in the movie theater. Danielle and I tried to get the best tickets possible because, as you may know, the two of us, but mostly her, are huge fans of the franchise. Ever since she got the movie stuck in me, I haven't been able to just deny an opportunity to watch it. It's like, in a way, a guilty pleasure if you may. I love the adventures and romance that the two main charactes, Rose and Jack, go through during the film. Even though most people who watch the movie cry during it, I have not been able to shed a single tear whenever I watch it. Why? I don;t know it myself.
That Friday during the last period, I was sitting in Pre-Calculus, waiting anxiously for the bell to ring signaling the end of the day and the beginning of the weekend. The teacher kept repeating to the class how to work two problems from the homework of the previous night, for basically the whole class period. Nobody seemed to get it. Strange enough, almost nobody got it but me and a Sophomore who made his way into the class. The topic was the Laws of Cosines. One of the easiest things we have done in this class ever since August.
"Now do you understand?" The teacher asked the class.
A girl with blonde hair raised her hand. "So, after you divide both sides by the negative two times three times five-point-two, what do you do?"
The teacher rolled her eyes. "After you divide both sides by the same number get Cosine of B alone, you have to type in your calculator, second, COS, second, negative sign, close parenthesis, and enter. That is your answer for angle B. Another question?"
While she answered another question from a boy who was in the soccer team, I raised my eyes towards the digital clock on the wall opposite of my seat. The time was 2:51 P.M.
Only four more minutes 'til Titanic!
Because I understand this topic, and I went ahead and did the problems that were supposed to be practice in class but ended up being homework, I started packing up and got ready to go home. Three minutes after, the whole class stood up from their desks and started lining up by the door. Samantha, a girl who sat on the row next to mine, but a seat behind, asked me,
"So what are you doing this weekend?"
"Well, tonight I'm going with my friends to the Titanic premiere." I replied.
