John's POV

Second day of school. Seconds before my alarm will ring. Why do I always wake up a couple of seconds before my alarm? It's weird, really. I believe Hamilton has no classes today but I have 2, Marine Biology and Political Science.

****

Gosh, Alexander is cute.

"Mr. Laurens, whoever this Alexander is, tell him not the class, thank you" Mr Eacker speaks.

Well fuck. I said that out loud, didn't it? I hear the whole class chuckle.

"I see our favourite fag has a crush, huh?" a familiar voice speaks.

Thomas fucking Jefferson.

His parents dragged his homophobic ass back to America after spending the Summer Break in France and ever since he got back, he's been causing nothing but trouble. 2 days is enough for him to make anyone's life a burning hell. Oh and he even has his very own lapdog to accompany him! Yep, you heard me. I present James Madison to you, someone who doesn't have an opinion on anything and decides to agree on whatever garbage comes out of Jefferson's mouth.

*le time skip bc class is Boring af amirite*

My mind traces back to that poem. Alexander's poem. I am intrigued to know who it was about? Who's the lucky girl? I mean, it can't be a boy, right? He's straight? He's straight.

I make my way past the empty hallways. So empty that even my slight breaths echo. I open the door to reveal a sleepy Hamilton focused on the laptop in front of him.

"Hey"

"Hi" He replies.

A notification pops up on my screen.

New text message

LargeBaguette: Wanna hang out with me and Herc at the café? bring ur roomie"

RaiseAGlassForTurtles: Sure. be there in 10

"Hamilton. Laf and Herc invited me to the café and I was hoping you'd come with me. You know, to get to know them a bit better?"

"Uh, yeah sure. I just gotta finish this last sentence"

I get dressed and walk into the room to see Alex saving his document and quickly putting his shoes on.

He smiles at me and says "Let's go"

****

"So Alexander" Lafayette speaks "Where are you and your family from? What's your story?"

"Um, I don't think that's very important" He hesitantly says

"Oh come on, if we're gonna be friends we have to know!"

Alex's POV

"Oh okay. Well, I'm from the Carribean. I grew up in Nevis and then moved to St. Croix with my mother, father and my brother. James. My dad left when I was 10 and then my mom died when I was 12. I wrote my way out"

I'm wasn't prepared to tell them how I wrote my way out. The hurricane. My published work in the newspapers is how I wrote my way out. But they don't need to know.

"I wrote my way out and people started to raise money for me to build my future. I was overwhelmed. My cousin helped me get settled. He helped me with a place to live and the supplies. So yeah. That's my story" I says lastly.

Back to John's POV

With his final words all of our nouth are wide open.

"Oh wow. You're so strong, Alexander" Lafayette says.

I pat Alex's back. "You alright?" I ask him.

"Yeah. It's good to let it all loose off of my shoulders. I never had a group of friends before and it's nice to know some people actually want to listen" He smiles.

"Of course" Herc says.

I look at my phone.

8:56 PM

"John and I should get going, it's quite late. It was nice seeing you two. Bye" Hamilton tells them.

"Yeah. Bye" I wave and me and Alex go back to our dorm.
