Graveyard Watchman (Book 2) The Demon Wars

Chapter 1

"Skylar!" I scream, "get away from him!"

His face changes like he's confused and Zull begins to laugh, "Well, aren't you the protective one?" he leans a little closer like he's telling me a secret, "Um, he can only hear the words that I want him to hear."

My eyes squint automatically as fury begins to flush my face, "What have you done to him you freaking monster!" I scream even louder, hoping Skylar can hear me but he just stares at me as if he can't make out my words.

Zull cocks his head like he's impressed with my bravery and glances up at Dominic, "She's pretty feisty for someone who's half naked." he looks me up and down and I swear I see a sick lust in his eyes, "I'm sure she's absolutely delicious."

Dominic jerks forward and I can tell that pissed him off but he stops himself and bites out, "What do you want, Zull."

"Me? You're asking me?" his condescending tone carries through as he laughs, "I can't believe you haven't figured that one out."

"You cannot have her!" Dominic shouts and I watch Zull's face become suddenly serious like he's thinking or maybe trying to trick us, "Ahh, you're smarter than I thought. And if you give her to me right now, all of this," his hands spread out, "will be over."

Dominic's eyes scan around and I can tell he sees the Fighters and Warriors standing by even though they're invisible to everyone else, including Zull.

"Do not do this," he says in a warning tone, "It will not end well."

"What?" Zull laughs again, "What are you going to do? Sick your little Queen on me?" he sing-songs the last part and I can actually feel Dominic's body getting hotter. "Oh, and tell me something," he goes on, "What would be the reason your beloved Queen failed to mention her other boyfriend."

"He's not my boyfriend, you asshole!" I shout as Dominic pulls me back.

"That's not what he said." Zull says, pulling his eyes from Skylar as he looks straight at Dominic and it's clear what he's is trying to do--but it won't work. Dominic would never listen to a liar.

"Go now and no one has to die." Dominic interrupts and Zull laughs so loudly that this time I watch Skylar laugh with him.

"You think," Zull takes a breath as if he's completely overcome, "you think we give a rat's ass who dies? That's rich, that's really rich."

"Enough!" Dominic growls looking past Skylar and Zull as he slightly nods his head.

Out of nowhere, Skylar is snatched from Zull's side, disappearing completely and Zull whips his head as if confused, "What have you done?!"

Dominic instantly pulls me close, wrapping his cloak around me and we're suddenly flying only this time, I can see everything. It's as if all Hell has broken loose and the ground below us has become a war zone. Warriors, Demons and even Fighters are tangled in a mess of blood and screams as we fly toward the forest, away from the horrific sight. I slam my eyes shut, hoping, no praying it's over when we suddenly land and I'm released.

Holy shit, we're back in the cave.

"Stay here!" Dominic shouts, his hands land firmly on my shoulders like he means business, "I mean it, Kate, do not leave!"

Without a word, he's gone before I can answer back and all I can do is scream, "Dominic!"
