Dominic's face tightens into a slight smile, "You're starting to think like a Warrior, my love," he pulls me close and I practically melt into his arms. I've been waiting for him to hold me for what feels like years. I instantly look up into his handsome brown eyes as he leans down and gently kisses the side of my cheek. The scruff on his unshaven face tickles my skin as he stays close, slowly finding his way to my lips. His tender touch accentuates the intensity behind his desire, or maybe it's mine, I can't tell anymore. Our mouths move in unison while his gentle tongue takes its time to caress mine. It's as if he's exploring me all over again and I'm nearly undone by his lips, his smell, his touch. If he wasn't holding on to me so tightly, I'm not sure my knees could do the job on their own.
Rapid foot steps from behind us instantly shatters my intoxication and I quickly sober up the closer they become. Whipping my head in their direction, I can already see that it's Victoria, holding a tray with a glass and a small bowl.
"Oh, your Highness," she dips down into a shallow bow, "I did not expect to see you here," she glances up to Dominic as a look of curiosity washes over her.
"Hello, Victoria," Dominic gets out, his voice low and hushed, "her Majesty required my immediate attention." his eyes go to her tray, "Thank you, but I will no longer need your services."
Victoria blinks a few times like she's totally surprised but doesn't say anything. I can tell by the look they exchange she doesn't have to because somehow, he told her why without words. Telepathy? It must be. She understands, now. There's no doubt in my mind.
"I will add a setting to the dinner table," she smiles, curtsying before she turns and walks away.
Instantly, I glance up and catch his eyes watching her before they return to me, "How'd you do that?" I whisper-shout.
Dominic cocks his head, "You saw that, huh?" he shakes his head a little.
I nod, still in disbelief, "Wait, can you do it with everyone?"
He rubs his scruffy jawline for a second, "Yes, with people I am close to," he loosens his hold around my waist, "It takes some time to develop," he kisses my forehead and smiles like he's already reading my mind, "And yes, you and I can do it too. But right now, we need to prepare for dinner," he extends his elbow and I take it as we begin to walk back to our room.
The dim hallways are empty except for the occasional bow from a Fighter walking by or a member of the kitchen staff. I can already smell the food and grin to myself, knowing Victoria is the one preparing everything.
Suddenly, just the thought of dinner makes my stomach drop and I look up at Dominic, "So, how will you know for sure if Dr. Mansfield is associated with Zull?" I whisper as we stop just outside our room.
He clears his throat and reaches for the latch, "I already know she must be a spy in the very least," he opens the door and I walk through, "Because now, I'm starting to think that Zull knew our strategy all along," he gently pushes the latch shut, "And if I am right," he takes in a quick breath, "The battle we just fought might have been a set up all along."
