I'm still staring at the door, wishing I could have said something different to Victoria. Hell, anything to make it better for her. I can't imagine what she's going through, having to see the man she loves with another woman. The same woman who showed up out of nowhere and is no doubt influencing him. I have to do something about this and I will--and hopefully, sooner than later if I can help it.

Shimmering speckles cascade off the stone walls and I look down, suddenly remembering that Emily also ordered this dress. I feel a little guilty wearing it but I don't really have a choice. If I don't play along in her little game, or whatever this is, she's bound to think something's up--and that can't happen. Not yet.

A creak at the door catches my attention as Dominic walks through. His powerful stride is still such a turn-on but he instantly stops and sucks in a breath, "You..." he looks me up and down, "You are a vision," he comes closer, "I did not believe you could get any more beautiful, but I was mistaken," he takes my hands and leans in, gently kissing my lips. If we could stay like this and skip dinner I'd totally try to talk Dominic into it. These moments are way too few and far between but I know I have to be patient. We both do.

"Are you ready?" he holds out his elbow and I take it.

"Yes. I'm looking forward to seeing their faces when you show up."

He smiles but it's drenched in caution, "We must be wise with our questions, Kate."

I nod, "That's why I'm going to let you do all the talking."

He grins but I can tell his concern is overriding my attempt to lighten the mood. There's no telling what kind of damage Emily has already done. I just hope we're not too late.

As we begin walking toward the grand dining hall, I can already smell the incredible aroma of Victoria's cooking. Instantly, the look on her face before she ran out of my room slams back in my head. Not only has she been booted out by the other woman, but she now has to cook for her, too. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if I actually can keep my mouth shut. She doesn't deserve this...it isn't right

The massive doors to the dinning room are open and as we walk through, Zack and Emily immediately scoot back in their chairs and stand. The table is already set and there's a roaring fire blazing across the room.

"Your Majesty," Emily bows and her eyes go directly to Dominic, "Ahh, who do we have here?" her expression is calm, nothing like I thought it would be.

"I am Seraph Warrior, Dominic," he says, pulling out a chair for me and I take it as he scoots me in. Everyone sits back down and I look up at Zack who smiles but doesn't look surprised at all to see Dominic.

"It's nice to finally meet you," Emily grins, taking a sip of red wine, "I've heard a lot about you," she sets the glass back on the table, "I understand your vigil is over?"

"Yes," Dominic glances at me and then back to her and I can tell he's even more cautious than before, "I must admit, I have heard nothing about you."

"Well," she looks over to Zack who's got a goofy grin on his face before looking back at Dominic, "That's about to change. I promise."
