I woke up in the back seat of a car. After the herd went by we decided to take my car and go somewhere else. I wanted to go into the city, because of the radio saying that people should head there. Cole said that is a bad idea to get in a place with way more people that could get infected. So instead we are just going with the flow. We parked in between two trees with the back of the car in the woods. Yesterday we decided to stop and rest for the night, giving that Cole was the driving. I felt that he was way more tired than I was. So I made him rest. We unlocked the back seat backs so they would fall down to show the trunk. Cole slept there and I slept on the seat backs, not that uncomfortable to be honest. When my eyes got use to the sun I looked around to see that I was the first to wake which was strange. Looking over at him I see that his coat laid on top of him like a blanket and his shirt rolled up his stomach showing his abs again. Let's be real he was hot. I smile turning away and climbing into the front seat, where we put our stuff so we could sleep in the back. Shuffling through my bag I find my book and start reading. Waiting for him to wake. An hour goes by and I feel a hand on my seat. I look over to see Cole in the middle of a yawn. He put the seat back up and put everything in the back. He climbed into the driver seat and said, "morning". It was a husky voice that sent chills up my spine. I never experienced his morning voice, and to be honest I want to wake up early everyday. I cleared my throat saying, "morning". He layed back in the seat closing his eyes. I continued to read as he did so. "What are you reading today", he said breaking me out of my thoughts. "The distance between us", I say still reading. He hums in response and starts up the car. He starts to drive down the road heading to our next destination. Setting the book back in my bag I smile out the window. Today I felt something was going to happen, it could be good or bad. I'm hoping for good. "What are you happy about", Cole said laughing. I turn towards him with my smile still on my face. His head switched from the road to me and back to the road every few seconds. "I have a good feeling about today", I tell him. He laughs again and smiles at me. We continue on our journey till we hit a gas station. He parks the car next to one of the pumps, we needed more gas. We hop out, Cole grabs his plastic tube that he uses to get the gas out of the other cars. I start to head to the building before I was stopped by Cole saying, "take your weapon". I turn back to the car and swing the arrow bag over my shoulder and grab my bow. He smiles and gets back to getting gas. I laugh and head inside the building. Inside was a normal looking store with ads and cheesy charms for the state of New York. The only difference was that the lights were off and there were cans and bags of chips laying on the ground. I picked up a box of trash bags and took one out. This is the apocalypse, we don't need canned foods in paper bags to eat them. Grabbing as much I could I put them into the bag bringing them to the front of the store knowing that I would not be able to carry all those cans all the way to that car. I was on the second bag when I heard a noise from the back of the store. Taking one of the arrows out I ready my bow as I head to the back door. Looking at the floor I see stands of red leading to the door. I would be lying if I said I was not scared. And it does not help that I'm observant and notice things like a red stain that is most likely blood. When I got to the door I knocked on it, I waited a second. That is when a great bang was hit against the door. I was so startled that I brought my bow to be readied to fire any second. I calmed myself setting my bow down and taking my knife out instead. Taking a deep breath I slowly opened the door to be greeted by one of those things. I didn't think much as I jammed the knife into its head. It fell to the ground with my knife with it. I sighed as I waited another minute to hear if there was another one. When nothing was heard I pushed the door open seeing the, what use to be, lady that I stabbed in the forehead. Grabbing my knife I pulled hard to get it out of her skull. When it finally let go I wiped it on my shorts and continued into the room. It looks like a storage of some kind. Inside was pils and piles of boxes, they had words like 'chips' and 'candy' on them. Using my knife I cut into one of them and looked inside to see just what the boxes said. Smiling I take one of the boxes and step over the lady and walk out the door to the front where I find Cole looking around. I don't say anything to him as I hand him the box. He takes it and looks inside and his eyes widen. We hit the jackpot of food in this place.
