Cole's POV

I woke up expecting to see Pen sleeping but to my surprise she was nowhere to be seen. Even her bag was gone. Jumping up fast I look around for my bag and could not find it. She tricked me, left me here. I ran through the store to the front of the building. Pausing I look around, the car was still here. Then I look up to a black pickup truck to see her sitting in the front passenger seat with a book in her hand. I sighed with relief, but that turned to anger. I walked over to the truck and opened the door. "What the hell", I say in a loud voice. She had a smile on her face, she must know what I was thinking. "Sorry I scared you", she says to me. Rolling my eyes I hop into the truck and rest my head on the steering wheel. "You didn't scare me, you frustrate me", I tell her. She laughs, "Whatever you say". She goes back to her reading as I calm myself from my sudden outburst. I had a plan today. I didn't know if it was a good one or not because of the fact that it involves going into the city. But it was a plan, and that was more then we both had. I knew the city. It is where I grew up and went to school. Most businesses in the area knew me as the annoying guy that asked too many questions. Which I was, being that I wanted to be a journalist. But now that the world has gone to shit I find myself not caring. I write in my book once in a while for memories but other then that I don't care. A humming noise pulls me out of thought as I look over to Pen. She had the same book from yesterday in her hand and her feet resting on the dashboard. Her over sized blue shirt lifted a bit to show her hip. She had on a pair of jeans and a pair of Nike sneakers that matched her blue theme. Her humming stopped after she noticed me looking at her. My head still laid on the wheel still frustrated. But for some odd reason I can't find myself to be mad at her. Maybe it is because she seems so innocent, or maybe it is because there is something about her that makes her... different than the people I have known. Am I really kidding myself, she is not as innocent as she seems to be. I know this because of the truth or dare game we played when we first met. Not going to lie about that night, I had dirty thoughts. But I would never had done anything. First being she is underage, second being I am older for her. Why am I even thinking about this? She is sitting right next to me and I'm just thinking about...who the hell knows. Her humming comes back again as we look at each other. It was some kind of some but I didn't know it. I opened my mouth to speak but stopped. It was kinda soothing listening to her hum, so I didn't want to make her stop. "I'm sorry", she says after a minute. I nod. I knew she was, so I didn't try to say anything more about it. Lifting my head from the wheel I sigh and say,"we are going to the city". Her eyes widen at the sudden news making her eyes pop with there color of brown. "You said it would be dangerous", I nodded again. I did say that, because it was. My main goal is to go to Maine. There is less people more trees and less chance of big groups of z. But giving that we have not found any decent medical supplies just in case we need it, we need to head to the closed one. And that would be the pharmacy in the middle of the city. The heart of the city if you want to put it like that. "We need to get to the pharmacy for supplies", I tell her. She nods this time.

Going into the city needed to be quick and quiet. So me and Penelope got into her car and left the truck hidden behind the store. We rode down into the city. Cars piled on the sides of the street and trash flu through the air. The sight was sad to see. The big apple was now a wasteland for the dead to walk through. Parking the car a block away from the pharmacy I get out with my gun and bat. Pen does the same with her bow and we start to head out. The road was quiet making me feel uncomfortable. We got to the door opening it and slip inside. No dead was walking so I start to grab what we could use. I heard a yelp but before I could turn around and see what it was I blacked out.
