Scared to Ask

Carmilla is working a late shift at the bar like any other night when a girl (Laura) walks in. Carmilla is more than certain that this girl has some issues, but a customer is a customer.

It's 12:38am on a Thursday morning when Carmilla is about to get ready shutting down the bar. It's dark, it's raining and it's cold, and Carmilla has been constantly looking out the window to admire the weather, just waiting to be able to clean up and close up to feel the nice breeze of the air and breathe in its freshness. Working at a bar has its advantages, for the most part people only talk to her to ask for a drink, she likes the dive type feel of it and the deep wood of the countertop somehow makes her feel at home. The disadvantages though, could really take a toll on someone who really does dislike people. For instance; the perverted drunken bastards that continuously try to hit on her. There is no denying that Carmilla is an absolutely beautiful woman, so it's not surprising that people hit on her. It just really does rub her up the wrong way when some dude decides after he's gotten shit-faced, he would like nothing more than to jump into the leather pants she dons almost every night.

Most of the reason as to why that bothers her is she's gay. Really, really gay.

Just as Carmilla is rubbing down the mahogany bench at the bar, the entrance doors suddenly slam open and closed as a woman who is absolutely drenched stumbles into the building.

Carmilla's head turns towards the sudden noise and her eyes widen at the source. This girl was a mess. Albeit with her adorable bunched up face, her beautiful blonde hair, and her tiny stature, Carmilla considered her an extremely hot mess. But still, a mess.

The blonde haired girl is absolutely soaked from the rain, her shirt is ripped, she's wearing sunglasses.....and no shoes. Carmilla is baffled by the sight. 'What the frilly hell happened to her?' Carmilla thinks as she eyes the woman staggering her way to the bar stool. With a wet plop and a tired huff, the woman rubs at her temple and then slouches in her seat, her shade covered eyes seeming to be boring into Carmilla's soul.

"Could I have a Chocolate Volcano?" She asks groggily, seeming tired and even kind of drunk. Carmilla's eyebrows furrow in confusion. 'What the fuck is a Chocolate Volcano?' Carmilla opens her mouth to ask, but as her eyes roam the girl in front of her, she closes it again. Upon realising that this girl looks like she had gotten herself into some kind of spat, Carmilla comes to the decision it's best not to ask....to be honest, she was kinda scared to ask.

Carmilla nods politely, a look of confusion and hesitance still plastered onto her face as she does so. Deciding that making the girl an alcoholic beverage was probably a bad idea, she decided that they had the ingredients to make a chocolate milkshake, so she can just pretend to make whatever the fuck a Chocolate Volcano is and hope that it's good enough to satisfy interesting girl waiting for a drink.

Carmilla was busying herself with the chocolate milkshake when the blonde's voice broke the silence. "I don't mean to be rude or anything, but who the hell are you? I've been here quite a few times and I've never seen you here before." Carmilla put chocolate syrup and milk into a shaker and turned around while mixing it together with an uninterested look on her face. "Carmilla. I'm the bartender, sweetheart." She said in a know it all tone, quickly finishing mixing up the chocolate and milk before pouring it into a tall glass and putting some extra chocolate syrup in it. "One Chocolate Volcano for...." Carmilla left the last part of the sentence blank in hopes of getting the mysterious girl's name. "Oh, thank you. And it's Laura, Laura Hollis." The blonde grinned as she took her drink and happily started downing the contents.

Carmilla smirked and continued to wipe down the bench. "So Laura Hollis. Would you like to explain to me why I'm violating the 'No shirt, no shoes, no service' rule right now?" She quipped, causing a slight giggle to fall from Laura's lips as she took another sip from the glass. "Well, basically I had a huge fight with my....friend? Yes, friend Danny. We both just want different things, and she smothers me and treats me like a child, like, if I want to eat a full packet of cookies in one afternoon, I will! Anyway, we got into an argument and I just wanted to get out of there. In my rush I forgot my shoes, my shirt got snagged on a fence on the way here and, well, you should be able to guess why I look like I've taken a shower soap-less and with my clothes on." Laura rambled on. Carmilla chuckled, despite disrupting quite a nice and quiet night with a very confusing request while looking more than questionable, she found the girl adorable. And she had picked up on the way she had hesitated when calling this Danny person her friend. 'I would put my entire life savings that this friend assumed they were dating.'

Laura had finished her drink and was making small talk with Carmilla for the ten minutes left until closing time. When Carmilla glanced at the clock and saw that it was almost 1am, she turned to Laura and playfully punched her arm. "Hey Cupcake, time to close up shop. Mind giving me the glass?" She smirked as a light blush flushed on Laura's cheeks. She grabbed the glass from the blonde, cleaned up, stacked everything away, ushered the last few drunken people out the doors and then reached for the keys. What she didn't know though, was that Laura lingered and waited until the door was closed and locked to say thank you.

So when Carmilla turned around to see the blonde standing right behind her, she swore loudly, hissed like a cat, and jumped backwards. "Well, that was a kick.." She breathed as she tried to catch her breath, glaring lightly at the girl who was holding onto her stomach from how hard she was laughing. "I'm...I'm so....sorry. Ohmygod....that...was hilarious." Laura managed to get out between breaths and bursts of laughter. Carmilla just continued to glare, but couldn't help but smile just a little bit at the amused woman in front of her. 'Her laugh is actually really cute...Carmilla no!' "Alright, cutie, you've had your laugh. Now why were you waiting for me out here like you're planning on murdering me?" At the shy smile that she received from Laura, Carmilla's smile grew. She couldn't put her finger on it, but there was just something  about the girl she that made her easy to be around. That made Carmilla want to be around her.

"I just wanted to thank you. Today hasn't really been the best. First my roommate went missing, WHICH WE FOUND HER SO DON'T WORRY, then my milk went off so I couldn't have breakfast, and then my fight with Danny......it just hasn't really been a good day. So thank you for making me feel better, especially with that milkshake. I actually don't have any idea what a Chocolate Volcano is, I just thought that would sound cooler than asking if you had chocolate milk. Even though I know you didn't just do it for me, still. Thank you." Laura's shy smile was now accompanied by a small blush as Carmilla smirked at how flustered she was being. With a step forward Carmilla gave another playful punch to Laura's shoulder. "Talking to people is kind of my job. Although I despise talking to people usually, I did enjoy tonight as well. I hope tomorrow is better for you." Carmilla said genuinely. When in return Laura beamed at her excitedly, Carmilla's smirk once again turned into a genuine smile.

And that's when Laura quickly kissed her on the cheek, whispered a 'thanks Carm', and then proceeded to run off. Leaving a shocked, blushing, yet happy Carmilla behind. Carmilla smirked to herself and approached her motorcycle waiting in the parking lot. With the placing of a helmet and a rev of the engine, Carmilla was off into the rainy night. With only one thought in her head.

'I believe you have a girl to go get.'
