Laura and Carmilla are enjoying a nice trip to the city to visit Laura's dad when suddenly, the murder of one of the other passengers take place. Laura being Laura, instantly feels the need to solve the mystery of the murder. While Carmilla on the other hand, is eager to get off of the train.
Carmilla sits in one of the many smooth, red, leather booth on the train. Her eyes skimming over the pages of a book as she listens to Laura ramble on about how much she loves watching the world whizz past her eyes through the window.
Carmilla's mind eventually blocked out both Laura's voice and the words on the page she had been glued to. She starts to think about how when the driver of the train introduced herself, she couldn't help but feel incredibly antsy. Lilly Morgan was her name, and the thought of that made Carmilla terrified. While it wasn't her mother's name - Lolita Morgan - it was certainly close enough to it to provide constant vibes of uneasiness.
Carmilla didn't know how to feel. And that terrified her.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when she felt a gentle hand pushing some hair behind her ear, and the soft call of Laura's voice. "Hey, you okay? You look kinda broody..." Laura trailed off as her face portrayed nothing but concern. Carmilla shook her head, as if to both clear her head of any distressing thoughts and to show Laura nothing was wrong. "I was just thinking about some things Cutie, that's all." Carmilla gave Laura a small smile, which the smaller woman reciprocated. Laura adjusts herself so the she can snuggle closer to Carmilla and read her book. "Those who prefer their principles over their happiness, they refuse to be happy outside of the conditions they seem to have attached to their happiness......sounds....light and frothy." Laura chuckled awkwardly as she recited the somewhat morbid passage from Carmilla's book. The taller of the two looks down to Laura and waits for her to look up at her. "It's comforting. He understands that love doesn't mean the same thing to everyone." Carmilla explains as she lets her hand run itself through Laura's hair and trail down to her lower back. Laura thinks for a moment. "I think that's the saddest thing I've ever heard..." Laura decides to respond with.
Carmilla sighs as she understands that would be how Laura sees it. Carmilla finds how Albert Camus words the concept of how people go through their own journeys of happiness, unhappiness and how we all impose prisons upon ourselves is beautiful. She finds comfort in the fact that a philosopher from the 20th century can so thoroughly understand a person's individuality.
The two shift their position once more into something more comfortable. Carmilla puts a bookmark in her current place in the book and closes it to put it into her travel bag beneath her feet. Laura goes back to looking out the window as the two engage in conversation.
Suddenly, Laura's voice becomes a bit nervous as she clears her throat. "Hey, Carm?" Comes her soft, shaky voice. Carmilla's eyebrows furrow in concern as she shifts to look the blonde in the eyes. "Yeah, Cupcake? Are you alright?" She asks, her hand quickly finding Laura's to draw letters soothingly onto her hand with her thumb. Laura visibly swallows. "I just....want to thank you. You know...for coming with me? For agreeing to meet my dad? Even considering the fact that I've told you how crazily protective he his and that he almost had a heart attack when I told him I had a girlfriend and there is a very big chance that he just may spray you in the face with bear spray-" Laura is cut off by Carmilla shushing her. She leans forward to place the sweetest and most gentle kiss on Laura's lips. "Sweetness, you need to breathe. Look, just because you have a dad that would rather bear spray anything in his wake then watch you get even looked at in the wrong way by a person, it doesn't mean that I am going to be scared. Sherman cares about you and he's proud of you. That's more than I ever got. Don't worry, I will be fine. I'm sure if he gets passed the fact I am dating you and I have the potential to break your heart that he won't try to spray me. Besides...." Carmilla kisses the side of Laura's head and smirks. "He cares about you enough that he wouldn't try to harm your girlfriend, right?"
