Hi guys please feel free to comment and fix up my spelling errors :)
I stood concealed in the shadows of a Maple tree that's next to the only coffee store in this town.
I had been waiting for around twenty minutes and would only have to wait for three more until I'm able to start my 'assignment'.
I watch two small children dressed in white rush out of the only church found in town and race down the steps that lead to the entrance, taking them two at a time whilst their parents stood near the entrance talking.
Those people must be religious to be going to church on a Friday afternoon.
I used to think that I'd get married in a church like that and have children and grandchildren and raise them in a small town like this one but all those thoughts were now just a fantasy because I died two years ago.
I impatiently check my watch, 50 seconds. I make my way to an empty chair in front of the coffee shop and look attentively out onto the road like I was told to do.
30 seconds. I'm meant to be searching for a girl that looks like she's in her early twenties with fair skin, blonde hair and is wearing a green tank top, white jeans and black heels, she's going to get out of the bus that pulls up in front of the coffee shop. 10 seconds.
I keep my eyes trained on my watch and stare at the seconds hand as I stand, walk back to the maple tree and thankfully don't bump into anyone on the way.
5 seconds. The bus comes into view as it turns onto the street. I watch the clock hands move and whisper the countdown to myself, something I'd done since my first 'assignment'.
Four seconds.
Three seconds.
Two.
One.
I am now enveloped in the shadows. When I say 'enveloped in the shadows' I mean enveloped in the shadows. I can't be seen by any living thing now I am literally like a ghost. Hell I could stand in front of someone right now and they'd walk straight through me.
I run towards the coffee shop and see the bus coming to a halt. An elderly couple gets off then a pregnant lady and finally a group of teenage girls. The last of them to exit the bus is the one I'm after.
Bingo
She and her friends wait for the bus to pass to cross the road. This gives me enough time to fall in step beside her.
She's laughing and walking backwards now so that she faces me and her friends.
I wonder what will happen this time.
I look left and right to see that the cars on both sides are stationary and the drivers look bored. I look back at the street we just left and find people talking in groups at the coffe store.
I look forward and discover that I already crossed the road and the girl is now swinging around a signpost that's dangerously close to the road.
Those are really high heels
She's calling out to her friends to walk faster and they just laugh in reply. Everyone has now crossed the road and the girl is still swinging around the wooden post. I see the cars start to move and pick up speed. The girl's foot slips making her stumble backwards.
Oh
She tries to catch herself by clinging to the signpost and bringing herself up but her foot slides on the tiled ground that is slick from the earlier rain and her torso comes crashing down towards the road.
Her hands leave the post and her mouth opens to produce an ear splitting scream as she falls. Her friends rush to try catch her but don't move quickly enough. I try to grab her hand or at least push my hand against her palm but only feel the air instead of her.
I see her eyes go wide in fear before uttering one final scream that gets mingled with the sound of car horns and people's frantic shouting.
I watch her head hit the ground only to be crushed by an uproaching car moments later and a frightened driver.
I saw her face become illuminated by the bright headlights before she fell and closed her eyes one last time.
