The boat gets guided to the surface of the water that's underneath the Barrier, which is currently unbroken. My hands are cold, my knuckles white and my whole frame shaking.

The dim light coming from the flickering lantern is just bright enough for me to see the water which now eddies and swirls, I need to tell someone to fix that lantern. The surface stills and the splashing of water ceases, leaving me to listen in silence to my laboured breathing, the seconds of silence are about to crawl into a minute and I finally loose my patience.

"Show yourself!" I scream into the blackness but only hear my echo in the silence "Come up!" I say and I see dark shapes from the depths circle the boat and rise to the surface.

I feel a weight on the boat from behind and I whip my head around, nothing, I turn back and I feel the boat tip slightly into the water on the right and I stumble towards the water, inches from falling into it before the weight is removed and the boat springs back into place. The lantern swings forward, hitting the back of my head and I hear a soft chuckling sound that turns into signing.

The voice singing is suddenly accompanied by many more and that all begin to harmonise. I dig in the pocket in my pant with trembling hands for a hearing aid, or rather an enhanced hearing aid designed to translate all languages, the only problem was that Felix made it and he's Spanish so it only translates into Spanish and unfortunately I'm terrible at Spanish.

I shake the water out of the hearing aid and stuff it into my ear. They seem to be reprimanding me for my recklessness in steering the boat. I groan, looks like they're not gonna be useful to me until I apologise.

I hold the side of the boat and clear my throat, suddenly all noise stops and I can feel all eyes on me. "Ummm" I begin fumbling for the right words "Sorry?" I say lamely.

The voices all start up again and I can hear some yelling at me to drive properly, some accepting my apology and some cursing at me for making such a scene.

Well I'm sorry if I interrupted your never ending choir rehearsal and your constant hair combing

I hear splashes and see some of the dark shapes in the water retreat, leaving behind those kind enough to accept my apology.

They break the surface of the water and they first thing I see is their long colourful hair, swaying in the water. Their eyes range from a piercing green to a dull purple and everything in between.

They bring their heads above the water holding the edge of the boat and lean in towards me. I stare at them for a short moment, admiring their high cheekbones
