Chapter 6: Wingardium Leviosa
Word Count: 2129"One of a wizards most rudimentary skills is levitation. The ability to make objects fly. Uh, do you all have your feathers?" Professor Flitwick looked around the room as only Hermione was the one who held up her feather. "Good. Now, uh, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing, hmm? The swish and flick. Everyone. The swish and flick. Good. And enunciate. Wingardium Leviosa. Off you go then."
Jackson practiced the movement a couple times, flicking his wrist and moving his wand before finally saying, "Wingardium Levio-saaa." He pouted when his feather didn't move and stayed planted on the table. He looked around the room and saw no one else was having any luck either. That made him feel better.
"Wingardrium Leviosar." Ron chanted; whacking his wand back and forth, seeming to be a lot more frustrated with the none moving feather than Jackson had.
"Stop, stop, stop." Hermione put her hand up, leaning away from the red headed boy with a huff. "You're going to take someone's eye out. Besides, youre saying it wrong. It's Leviosa, not Leviosar."
Ron scoffed and gestured to her feather. "You do it then if you're so clever. Go on, go on."
Jackson rolled his eyes, not believing Ron was actually challenging the smartest girl in the class. If anyone could do it, she could. He zoomed in on Hermione's feather as she done the spell and it started to float up into the air. She smiled smugly as Ron laid his head roughly on the books in front of him. Everyone's attention was on her now.
"Oh, well done! See here, everyone! Ms. Granger's done it! Oh, splendid!"
Jackson pat Ron on the back, "better luck next time." He whispered, only making his friend grumble at him.
Seamus, who was sitting in the row in front of Jackson, began to swish his wand back and forth quickly, chanting harshly. Jackson leaned back in his chair, as a spark came from the wand. This didn't look— BOOM! Jackson jumped in his seat with a small squeak as Seamus created an explosion.
Harry lifted up his also burnt feather with wide eyes, "I think we're going to need another feather over here, Professor." Jackson's snort was heard seconds later.
After class Jackson walked with Harry and Ron and a few other boys from class. They were all heading to the great hall anyway. Jackson couldn't stop laughing at Seamus' burnt face, earning a few hits to the arm from the boy, his new doubt embarrassed face hidden behind the darkness.
"It's Leviosa, not Leviosar." Ron complained with a exaggerated eye roll. He still wasn't over what Hermione did in class. "Honestly, she's a nightmare. No wonder she hasn't got any friends!"
If only the girl hadn't been walking a few feet behind them and had heard the whole thing. A sniffle left her as she barged last the redhead, making all the boys halt in their steps. Jackson frowned, feeling guilty even though it was his stupid friend that said the stupid statement. "I think she heard you."
