Chapter 10: Forbidden Dark Forest
Word Count: 1813Jackson was being led through the dark night, getting closer to what looked like Hagrid's hut. He had no idea why Filch was taking them all here for detention but he couldn't complain. Hanging out with Hagrid was fun and maybe they could get some more information out of him.
Oh, wait, we can't because that weasel is here. He looked at Draco with annoyance. It was his fault they were all here and now he had to spend the night with him as well. As long as he kept his mouth shut and didn't say anything insulting, it would be easy for Jackson to ignore his presence.
"A pity they let the old punishments die. There was a time detention would find you hanging by your thumbs in the dungeons. God, I miss the screaming." Filch said. The look of fear that crossed Draco's face made Jackson snicker at the wimp. "You'll be serving detention with Hagrid tonight. He's got a little job to do inside the dark forest."
They approached the large man who was sniffling, looking like he had been crying. "Are you okay, Hagrid?" He asked with concern.
"No, talking you!" Filch snapped at him. Jackson flinched back and grumbled under his breath. He was just asking a question. "A sorry lot this, Hagrid." The old man paused and narrowed his eyes. "Oh, good God, man, you're not still on about that bloody dragon, are you?"
Hagrid continued to sniffle and let out a sigh, "Norbert's gone. Dumbledore sent him off to Romania to live in a colony."
"Well, that's good, isn't it? He'll be with his own kind." Hermione said, trying to cheer him up.
Hagrid shook his head. "Yeah, but what if he don't like Romania? What if the other dragons are mean to him? He's only a baby, after all."
"I'm sure they will be lovely to him and he will be fine." Jackson smiled kindly at him.
"Oh, for Gods sake, pull yourself together, man." Filch snapped at the upset man. He held no sympathy at all. "You're going into the forest, after all. Got to have your wits about you."
"The forest? I thought that was a joke! We can't go in there. Students aren't allowed. And there are..." Draco was cut off when a loud howl broke out through the air, "werewolves!"
Jackson took a step closer to his friends. He must admit, he didn't want to show his fear but the image of coming face to face with a werewolf and getting ripped apart flashed through his head. Maybe detention with Hagrid wasn't such a fun idea.
"Don't be scared." Harry whispered over to him so the others didn't here him. "Hagrid will protect us." He said. Jackson nodded his head. Harry was right. They would be fine as long as they stuck with Hagrid.
"There's more than werewolves in those trees, lad. You can be sure of that." Filch spoke darkly, making Draco look like he was about to wet himself. "Nighty-night." He made his exit with a joyful chuckle.
