When I wake up, I see white walls and feel a bit woozy. As my eyesight clears, I see three people in the room.
"Swan?" Killian asks. David and Mary Margaret turn their heads. She rushes to my side.
"Emma, are you alright?" she asks.
"M'fine," I mumble.
"Oh Emma, we were so worried about you. What were you doing?"
"Easy Mary Margaret. She just woke up. Let's not lay into her yet."
I go to sit up, but hands push me back down.
"Not yet, Swan. You lost a lot of blood."
Great.
"How long have I been out?"
"A few hours," David tells me.
"How bad is it?"
"You got lucky. It missed anything really important, but it split the collarbone and fractured your shoulder."
"And it missed really important things?" I snap.
"Easy, Emma. I know this isn't how you pictured your first day to go, but everything will be alright."
I really hate hospitals. They always bring back bad memories.
"When can I go home?"
"Not for a few days."
"Why?"
"Did you not hear what I told you?" David asks, his anger rising.
"Fine," I say, quite unhappily.
"Killian is going to stay here with you."
"I don't need a bodyguard," I snap.
"I never said you did. He's your partner and therefore, he's staying. This is also probation for him. He was supposed to have your back and he didn't."
"It was my fault, not his. I went off on my own."
"Be that as it may be, this is punishment enough for you. I take it you won't be this reckless again, and Killian, you will stay with her and bring her whatever she needs. Do you both understand?"
"Yes Captain," we both say, rather grumpily.
"Good. Let's go Mary Margaret, she needs rest. We'll come by tomorrow to check on you."
"Thank you," I say.
"I'm glad you're alright, Emma."
"Me too."
Once they leave, I fall back asleep, the medicine kicking in again. When I wake, Killian is still by my side.
"Sleep well?"
"Anesthesia tends to do that to a person," I say sarcastically.
"Aye, that it does love."
We continue a relatively easy conversation until I fall asleep again. True to their word, David and Mary Margaret return the next day and every day until I am released. Killian had to suffer through my complaints. As I said before, I hate hospitals, so I would try just about anything to get out of them. He even had to chase me down a couple of times. I think even the hospital staff was happy to be rid of me.
Killian drives me to his place, where, under David's orders, I'm supposed to stay for a few days until he's sure I'll be fine on my own. I will admit, it is a nice place, but I'd rather be at my apartment. This goes against my nature. Sure, I've had my fair share of one night stands, but I'd always left before the sun rose. Now I'm being forced to stay with a man that happens to be my partner. At least I'm out of the hospital. Either way, I'm not making this easy on anyone. I don't depend on others.
"Whatever you need, I'll get it for you. Anything that's mine, is yours."
"Thank you," I say forcefully.
He looks at me with concern, but doesn't push anything. Thank goodness. I'm not ready to spill my life story and you don't want to know. It's nothing pretty. I sit down on the couch and try to relax, but I don't think that's going to happen for a while. I guess I'd fallen asleep because I find him sitting on the other end of the couch, massaging my feet. I jerk them out of his hands unconsciously with a gasp. That hurt the shoulder.
"Sorry Swan."
I don't answer, but lay back.
"Do you want anything to eat?" He asks gently.
"I just want to go home."
"Well, you can't. Better make the most of it." He says a bit bitterly.
"Look, I'm sorry you have to put up with me. You could just let me go home. I've dealt with worse on my own." Shit, I hadn't meant to say that. He looks at me with concern and worry. I wish he'd stop doing that, it makes me uncomfortable.
Author's Note:
I feel like this ended abruptly, but I wasn't sure where to go after this. If you have any ideas, let me know! I'm going to try to do updates every Sunday, but since school is coming to an end, they may be slower. Thank you for reading!
