A/N: Last chapter before the epilogue! Thank you for over 500 reads! I know that may not seem like much, but it brought tears to my eyes! Thank you!
Emma's POV
It had been twelve hours since they had left, eleven since labor started and it was getting worse by the minute. David had been doing his best to keep me calm and bringing me whatever I needed. I'd be forever indebted to him after this. I've been alternating between lying down on the couch with pillows and walking around, but now everything is getting uncomfortable. Tears pour out of my eyes again, and not just from the pain, but from all the frustration that I've built up lately.
It was well after dark by now and I had pretty much given up on Killian getting back. I wasn't ready to have these babies, not without him here, but it was seemingly becoming more realistic as time went on. We had just found out that Jeff had made it to the hospital, and we were thankful, I knew he'd be in good hands there, but it didn't help with my worry for Killian. As the next contraction started, I screamed, letting out the pain, the anger, the frustration, everything. I was tired of fighting it all. Next thing I knew, the office door opened and I heard the best thing I'd heard all day: my name. From the most important man in my life. I turned my head to look at him and I couldn't help the tears that escaped then. The pain, the emotions, all vanished when his strong arms cradled me against his chest. I didn't notice that David had left us alone until minutes later.
"Emma, my love, I'm so sorry. I should have been here. I should have—"
"Killian, stop. You're here now," I say, cutting him off. "You didn't know. And I'm thankful for that. You got to me, to us, safely." I cry into his shoulders, letting everything out. He rubs my back gently and whispers sweetly in my ear.
It isn't a few minutes later when I know it's time.
"Killian, get David," I tell him, very seriously.
"Emma, I—"
"Damnit, Killian! Get him now!" I yell at him, crying out from the contraction.
He hurries to the door and returns with David.
"Hold on Emma," David says.
He calls Addison and gets the towels and other necessary items at the ready.
"How is she doing David?" Addison asks.
"I feel like I need to push," I grit out as another contraction starts.
"Can you see the head?" she asks.
"Yes," David answers.
"She needs to push. Be ready, David," Addison says, her voice changing into a focused doctors.
"Push, Emma," he says.
I scream as I bare down. He tells me I'm doing well and that it's almost over, but I'm terrified. Flashbacks creep into my mind and it's getting hard to concentrate.
"One more push, Emma," he says.
I push the thoughts away and push one more time. A shrill cry fills the room.
"It's a girl," David says, tears in his eyes.
"Hope," Killian says softly as David places her on my chest. Her cries fade away into whimpers as David wipes her off around my grip.
"Hello beautiful," I say as I lean in to kiss her head. "She looks like you, Killian." I look over to him to find tears in his eyes. Who knew?
"Killian, can you take her? This one doesn't want to wait," David says. He takes Hope quickly as I start to push again.
The flashbacks return and this time, I can't fight them.
"Emma, I need you to push," David says firmly.
I shake my head. My heart hurts. I don't want anyone to take him away.
"Emma, you need to push," Addison says through the phone. "This baby needs you."
Killian wraps his free arm around me and proceeds to comfort me. "I know what you're thinking, Swan, and I know it's scary. This is different. They aren't going to take him from you. It's just you, me, Hope, and David. Henry would support you in this. He knows you did it to give him his best chance. Push past these demons, Swan. That's all they are. Our little boy needs you."
With that, I give one final push and he comes into the world screaming and kicking.
"Liam," I say gently.
David lays him on my chest and for who knows how many times it's been today, I cry. Killian kisses my forehead and David proceeds to clean me up and they help me get comfortable. As soon as it's safe enough, they're going to get us to the hospital for a full check, but Addison feels confident enough that everything should be alright.
Eventually they both start to cry and I feed them. Killian's eyes have never left the three of us since it was over. It was heart-warming.
"I love you, Swan. So bloody much," he says as he leans in to kiss me.
Once we break, I reply, "I love you too. Can you hold them?"
He takes them and rocks them slowly. Not long after and I'm out like a light.
"You're going to be a great father, Killian," David says, looking at the three of them with pride.
"I hope so," is his reply. He looks down at his son and daughter and everything falls into place.
This was how it was meant to be. After everything they'd been through, this was it.
This was what we were looking for:
A family to call our own.
