20 Weeks

Killian's about had it with me, and I don't blame him. I've been nothing but difficult since we came home from the hospital. He's done everything he can to make it feel like I'm doing something, but nothing works. I've tried to cooperate somewhat, but he knows the only way to stop my complaining is to let me go back to work.

"For the last time, Emma, no!" he shouts in frustration.

"This is only going to get worse you know!" I shout back.

He rubs his hand through his hair. She was a stubborn lass.

"Do you want to lose them?!"

"Of course not! I just can't sit in here another day. I'm going crazy and I can't do it any longer! Just let me go do paperwork, please." I pull out the puppy-dog eyes.

"Alright, fine," he says unhappily.

"Oh thank God," I say, letting out a sigh of relief.

Half an hour later, we head out to the station. David and the others were surprised to see me, but they quickly turned away when I glared at them.

"Geez, she wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?" Will asks Killian as he walks by.

"It's been like this for the last few weeks. Not that I blame her, but it's been very stressful."

"Good luck, man," Will tells him, patting his shoulder.

"I heard that," I snap quietly.

He ducks his head and moves away. Good choice. I sit down in my chair and the tension instantly leaves my body. It felt normal and that's what I've been needing. I quickly get to work on the stack of paperwork on my desk, not uttering a word for a couple hours.

It isn't until I hear hands hit my desk that I look up, finding Killian looking down at me.

"We have an appointment to get to, love," he says gently with a smile.

"Do we?" I ask. My brain seems to have forgotten.

"We get to find out the gender, if that's what you want," he says, his eyes sparkling.

"Alright, let's go then," I reply, standing with slight difficulty.

He chuckles softly and I punch him in the shoulder in response. Never make fun of a pregnant woman. It will not end up in your favor.

We head to the hospital and Addison takes us back.

"Do we want to find out the genders?"

Killian looks to me. I guess I had the final decision.

"Yes," I say after a pause.

"Congratulations, Emma, Killian. You're having..."

I look over to Killian and he wipes away the stray tears that I didn't know had fallen.

"I'll see you again in four weeks," Addison says.

I head to the bathroom to change when her voice stops me.

"You can go back to normal, Emma. Light normal, but normal nonetheless." She smiles knowingly and I laugh in response.

Two good things in one day. Yes!

We head back into work afterwards and they're all dying to know. We tell them they won't find out until later. They respond with pleas, but we don't give in. They would find out eventually, so it's not the end of the world.
