Overload 4-Unnatural Attraction

                “Oh, you’re gay,” I said awkwardly. “That’s, that’s cool…”

“I understand if you don’t want me to move in with you anymore…”

“Gay or not, I’m still your friend and I want to help you.” Kale just stared at me in astonishment. “You stare a lot.” I pointed out.

“Oh, sorry,” he said looking away shyly.

“Dude, it’s cool, you don’t have to be sorry for everything. Or so shy, just relax, what happened to that guy that made me fall into my pool?” As soon as I brought that up it got really awkward again as I remembered having Kale pressed up against me, and me having liked it. “We should probably go inside and get you settled in.” I said as it began to rain.

“Yeah, okay.” We got out and ran into the house trying to avoid getting wet. I led Kale up the stairs to the fourth floor where all of the bedrooms were and into the bedroom next to mine. There was a queen sized bed in the center with a plain blue comforter and six pillows. There was a plain brown dresser that had been empty for years. There was a large closet and an adjacent bathroom of average size. Attached to the room was a balcony that overlooked the back yard. All of the bedrooms had matching balconies like this.

“Here we are,” I said. “Home sweet home, my room is next door. I’ll let you settle in a bit and I will go see what we can do about something to eat.” I left him and went down to the kitchen. What I found disappointed me as we had absolutely nothing microwavable and I couldn’t cook at all. About five minutes later Kale came down dressed in a pair of basketball shorts and a tight fitting white t-shirt.

“We have a problem,” I said to him.

                “Oh yeah?”

“We have nothing that can be micro waved and I can’t cook, like at all.” I confessed.

“Well you’re in luck, I can cook.” He said with that rare cocky grin on his face for the second time. “Spaghetti sound good?”

“Yeah, sounds great if you don’t mind.”

“Nah, it’s the least I can do with you taking me in and all.” He stared at the floor while running a hand through his black hair. For the next hour I obediently handed Kale ingredients and utensils as he worked. It wouldn’t have taken that long but we had to stop for a few minutes while Kale laughed at me for not knowing what a pasta strainer was. Was that common knowledge to teenage boys?

Eventually we sat down to eat and OH MY GOD, it was the best spaghetti that I had tasted in years. “This is amazing,” I said, my mouth watering as I savored the taste.

“Thanks,” He muttered shyly as he stared at his plate. “So um, are your parents cool with this then?”

“Yeah, my dad is usually cool with anything. As long as I keep my grades up, stay out of jail, and don’t burn down the house.”

                “What about your mom?”

“Um, she died when I was eight.”
