Harper, Jasper, Monty, Bellamy, Raven and I were making bullets as fast as we could, from the gunpowder we found in the depot. "Five to a clip," Bellamy told us, "let's go. We need to get guns on the wall."
"Why just five?" Monty asked.
"We're running outta gunpowder." I answered.
"We're so dead." Harper sighed.
"Don't worry," Jasper said to her, "I got your back." Monty scoffed and rolled his eyes, "you got something to say?" Jasper snapped at him.
"Guys," Raven said, "stay focused. We're doing good. We need as many rounds by dawn as we can."
"It won't matter," Finn said as he entered the tent, "if there is no one left who can shoot. What do we need to built a bomb?" Everyone looked at Finn now, wondering where this would go.
"Depends on what you're trying to blow up." Raven replied.
"How about a bridge?"
"What are you talking about?" Bell asked.
"Murphy said he crossed a bridge on his way back from the Grounder camp. Sound familiar."
"Yeah, so what?"
"So..." I spoke up, "you wanna blow up the bridge to give us time... or to kill all the Grounders at once?"
"To give us time," Finn replied, "it won't kill all of them and it won't stop the attack. The virus is fast. Murphy is already getting better, so the longer we can delay the more of us can fight."
"If Murphy is telling the truth," Bellamy said, "and that's a big if, that bridge survived a nuclear war and 97 years of weather."
"It won't survive me." Raven said suddenly.
"So what are you gonna do?" Bellamy said sarcastic.
"Hydrazine." I realized.
Raven smirked, "boom."Raven was working with the hydrazine, as we waited outside. She was wearing her suit, so the chance was small something could go wrong. "Okay, you can come in now." Raven called from out of her tent. Bellamy was the first to enter and I closely followed him. His eyes were fixed on the pink liquid. "Boom." I scared him.
"It's cute." He murmured. Raven smiled proudly. Finn entered the tent too, as I high fived Raven.
"Relax," Raven told the two boys, who were tensely staring at the hydrazine.
"It needs an accelerant." I told them.
"Gunpowder." Raven showed them the, what was left of, gunpowder, "container of hydrazine," Raven put it into a barrel, "you put the gunpowder around the hydrazine," she did what she said and put the cover on the barrel, "win a prize."
"And receive the prize," I edited, "when you didn't die of the huge explosion."
"That's the rest of our gunpowder," Bellamy said, "we can't make more bullets."
"Tonight," Finn said, "we need a bomb. We can worry about bullets tomorrow."
"If we do this and it doesn't work..." Bell started, "we'll be dead tomorrow."
"I trust Raven that it'll work." I said.
"To be safe," Raven told us, "you need to be at least 200 feet away to make the shot."
"No problem," Bell reassured, "which one of you plants the bomb?" Raven and I glanced at Finn, he hesitated.
"I will." He said after a few seconds.
"You won't pick up a gun," Bell argued, "but blowing people up you're okay with?"
"We're blowing up a bridge. Not gonna be any people on it."
"Finn, we have one bomb," I intertwined myself in the conversation, "made of our last gunpowder. We need to try and kill as many Grounders as possible."
"They don't know we only have one bomb. If we did, why waste it on the bridge? I'm talking about deterrence. Peace through strength."
"You mean," Raven said suddenly, "the appearance of strength."
"Yeah." Finn said in a low voice.
"The men who built the A-bomb," Bell said, "thought they were peacemakers too. How'd that work out for them?" I looked at Bellamy and noticed a red liquid was slowly streaming out of his nose.
"Oh god, Bell," I breathed, "your nose."
"Don't touch anything." Raven told him.
"Who else can take the shot?" Finn asked.
"Appreciate the concern," Bellamy said, "make sure the bomb is packed and ready to go in 10 minutes." He left the tent, the three of us shared a look and did what he said. "So stubborn." I sighed.Finn left the tent, and Monty had entered in return. He told us about an argument he had with Jasper and asked if he could spent the night here. Raven said that that was okay. But soon Monty had fallen asleep in a corner of the tent. "Listen, Olivia." Raven spoke suddenly, "I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna take the shot and plant the bomb myself."
"Raven, I know and I'm going with you."
"No," she sighed deeply, "the camp needs you, now Bellamy and Clarke are sick."
"Maybe you're right," I nodded, "promise you'll come back, okay?" She smiled and nodded, then pulled me in for a hug, "by the way, thanks for coming up for me the other night, with Finn..."
"No problem," we pulled back, "now, do. what ya gotta do, Bird."
"I will, Oli." She packed the bomb and left."Time to go," Finn said entering the tent only a minute after Raven left, "where's Raven?"
"And the bomb?" Jasper said entering too.
"She left, didn't she?" Finn snapped angrily at me, "and you let her?"
"She is not a kid, Finn." I argued back.
"How could you? She can blow herself up!"
"She didn't want me to come. So I let her! She'll be fine." I walked out of the tent.I walked into the Drop Ship and saw Bellamy laying on cot. His head was sweaty, and a bit of blood leaked out of his mouth. I found a clean cloth and made it wet with water. I sat down besides Bell and started whiling away the sweat. He slowly opened his eyes. "Hi." I said softly.
"You shouldn't be in here." He said slowly.
"Thank you was enough." I smiled weakly.
"Thank you." He said and closed his eyes again. I stroked his black curly hair until he felt asleep again."They did it." Bellamy said as we watched a huge black cloud in the from of a mushroom rise up out of the woods. Bell was a lot better in the morning, and now watched the cloud with me and Clarke.
"Do we have to cheer?" I asked sarcastic.
"I am become death," Clarke said, "destroyer of worlds. It's Oppenheimer. The man who built the first-"
"I know who Oppenheimer is." Bellamy cut her off.
"He built the first nuclear bomb," I finished Clarke, "during the Second World War. Clarke, I sat besides you in History Class. You used to write down the same notes as I wrote down." Clarke chuckled and rolled her eyes. The delinquents were cheering as Jasper and Monty walked back into camp. Finn was carrying Raven in, which caught my attention. Her nose was soaked in blood. Clarke and I made our way over. "Olivia, be careful." Clarke warned, so I took a step back as she and Finn helped Raven into the Drop Ship.
Two days had passed since the bomb on the bridge. Clarke thought we maybe scared the Grounders for good. Bell didn't think so. Jasper thought he could make gunpowder with sulfur. Raven said she could turn that into landmines (-"be careful where you step." "Funny."-). Which I replied with making more big bombs to blow those Grounders to hell (-"you look like your father." "Oh shut up, Clarke."-). And Finn still thinks we can talk to them (-"we aren't even trying to get along!" "Finn is right. I wish we could all get along like in primary school. Then we can bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiled and everyone would eat and be happy..." "god Olivia."-). All together things were going pretty well. Besides there was enough time to train, though the Grounders could come any moments. Raven and I found a way to make from 1 bullet 2 bullets. When I told Bellamy he was smiling like crazy and wanted to give us a Nobel (-"and the geniuses of the year are Raven Reyes and Olivia Kane!"-).
