1.Ty and Navvy went outside to go to the car and head to work when they heard yelling coming from Faith's house. They both stood and watched the house, a second later Faith came out followed by Ruth, holding a broom.
She pushed me down the stairs, then started hitting me with the broom. I shielded my face waiting for another blow, but it didn't come. I looked up to see her trying to swing at me, but a hand stopped it. I looked over and saw Ty had stopped it and Navvy was kneeling next to me. "What's the big idea?" Ty asked Ruth, sternly. She said nothing, then jerked the broom out of his hand and walked back inside. "You OK?" Navvy asked me, helping me up. "Yea, I'm fine, Thanks." "No problem." Navvy said as the three of us walked back to their house. "Hey when Cash gets here tell him we already left." Ty told me, getting into the car and driving off.
I turned around and went inside, strait to the kitchen for pizza. The Thorton's always had pizza in their ice-box, I looked at the newspaper it was todays newspaper and at the top it read, December 10th, 1959. A minute later I hear someone open the front door and sit on the couch. I walked into see Dylan, covered in blood and bruises. "What happened?!" I exclaimed. "My dad," He replied. His parents, well his dad is abusive, too, but usually he just yells, almost never hits. "Be right back," I said going into the Kitchen and wetting a rag. I walked back to the couch and sat down next to him. I started cleaning his face, from blood, "Ou!" He winced jerking his head away, then after a second moved back and I kept going. "There now I can actually see you." I smiled, he laughed and shook his head, I put the rag in the kitchen.
I came back out just as Mason and Cash walked in. "Hey," I said walking back over to Dylan. "Hhheeyy... oh... what happened to you?" Mason asked when he saw Dylan. "My dad," Dylan repeated, Mason just nodded and started talking again. "Oh and Cash, Ty told me to tell you they already left." I told him. "Alright, I'll go in a second, but we have some good news." Cash started "Guess who is coming home tonight?" Mason asked. No one said anything, we were waiting for him to finish. "HiJack!" He yelled. "Who?" I asked. "HiJack Borden, you know..." Cash started "I think he left before she got here." Dylan said. "Oh right, has it really been that long? Anyway he is an old friend, brown eyes, brown hair, he's about twenty." Cash continued. "Let me guess he is the lone wolf type, both his parents are dead and his birthday is August fifteenth?" I said. "How did you know that?" Mason asked. "Lucky guess," I sadly smiled and walked outside, and leaned up against the railing on the porch.
After a minuet Mason came out on the porch and stood next to me, not saying anything. "He's my brother." I said after a while, still looking out in the distance. "What?" Mason asked looking at me. "HiJack," I answered turning to face him. "he's my brother" I finished. "Why didn't you tell me you had a brother?" He asked. "Because I thought he was gone, not like dead gone, but I thought I'd never see him again." I told Mason. "What happened?" He immediately asked. "Our parents died and we were put in a foster home, we went through a lot of different families that year. We finally ended up with Ruth and Harold. Jack couldn't take the abuse and he said he was going to leave. I told him if he did I would never forgive him, but he left anyway. Before he left he gave me this necklace with a silver guitar pick, he said it was my mother's lucky guitar pick, he promised he would come back for me and if he didn't, I would have something to throw at him when I found him, and he never came back, so I guess I have something to throw at him." I explained. "Did you live in Greenwoods Mississippi before you moved here?" Mason asked out of the blue. "Um... yea, why?" I asked, confused. "HiJack left three and a half years ago to go to Greenwoods, Mississippi, he said he left something important there that he needed to go get." Mason said. "Can you keep this a secret; I want him to find out on his own." I said tucking my necklace behind my shirt. "Of course." He smiled.
Dylan, me and Mason all walked down to see Cash and Navvy at MT's. MT's is a sports bar slash restaurant and rooms for people to stay in. Our friend Marty's parents own the place, and Cash, Navvy and Marty all work there. We got there and walked over to the counter to see them. "Hey, watcha want?" Navvy asked walking over. "I'll take a water" I said "Coke." Dylan said after me. "Make that two" Mason smiled. "Hey y'all what's up?" Marty asked walking over to us. "Not much, but HiJack is coming home today." Mason answered. "Hey, wha' 'bout you?" Mason continued. "This place has been packed, hard to keep up, and to hit it off the lead singer just quit, so this place will get rowdy real quick." Marty started. "Faith, you can sing right?" He asked. "No, no I..." "Come on Faith just a couple songs." Mason interrupted. I just looked at him for a second, "Fine, but you owe me big." I pointed to Marty. I walked up onto the stage and asked the band what songs they knew how to play.
"Alright, hello everyone, I'm Faith Borden and the first song we're going to do is, He's Mine, by Marylinn Hamblin:
Eyes brown as chocolate
Hair soft as velvet
Lips sweet as apple pie
He is my lover
A mad man's brother
And the goodness in his heart brought him to me
He is my Dreamer
He is My fighter
He is my light in a storm
He never had it so good
But he could make me smile when no one else could
He don't know what else to do but run
He's like a hurricane under the sun
Every time I look at you I fall in love all over again
Since we were eleven
Ooooo----
He don't know what else to do but run
He is the one.
"Thank you." I smiled when I was done, they all clapped and I turned around to see what other song the band knew how to play. We played one more song then I went back to sit with the gang. "Faith I didn't know you could sing." Mason exclaimed when I got there. "Yea you've got some pipes there girly." Marty says, I smile. "I get it from my mom, she was a country singer." I smiled "Maybe you could consider working full time?" Marty suggested. "I'll have to think about it." I grinned.
"Hey wanna be, nice singing, but I could do better." Zeal says to me walking over. Zeal is Navvy's girlfriend, she has bright blue eyes and long blonde hair. She always wears flannel tank tops and jeans with high heels, she likes the other boys in the group, but for some reason she doesn't like me.
"Come on Zeal be nice." Navvy says. "I was nice I told her she sounded good." Zeal argued. "Navvy picked a real winner." I whispered to Dylan, he just laughed. "Hey we gotta go, but remember, Hijack will be home soon." Mason reminded Cash and Navvy, then walking out the door. We were walking down the street and some Mods passed us bumping me into Dylan. "Hey what was that for!" Dylan yelled to them. They turned around and I recognized them. The boys were twins, Brock and Treg, they are star football players, they pick fights and usually are drunk, they have brown blonde hair and blue eyes. The girls, Kayla and Indie aren't related, but are always together. Indie has turquoise eyes and brown-red hair. Kayla has dark brown eyes and brownish red hair. "You got a problem?" Treg asked, walking up to us. "Yea, we do, what you gonna do about it?" Mason mocked. Brock and Treg pulled out their switch blades just as fast as we pulled out ours. "Wow, even the broad has a blade," Brock started. "Bet she don't know how to use it." Treg finished, and they both laughed. "I bet I know how to use it better than you." I said matter of factly. "That's it you little brat!" Treg yelled, and took a couple steps toward me, before he got to me Mason and Dylan moved in front of me to stop him. "Someday these bums won't be here to protect you." Brock warned. "Come on we are going to miss the movie." Indie complained. "Come on Treg, let's go they aren't worth it." Kayla told them.
