. "Did you call Ty?" Mason asked Dylan when they got to the Tulsa hospital. "No I couldn't I ran straight to the fire house and back I didn't have time." Dylan explained. "Do you have a quarter, I'll go call them right now," Mason took the quarter out of Dylan's hand and went to the pay phone on the wall. "Pick up, Ty, pick up," Mason talked to himself.
"Hello?" Ty asked on the other end of the phone.
"Ty, its Mason," Mason clarified.
"Mason, I am so glad to hear you again!" Ty exclaimed.
"Ty not now, Faith is hurt." Mason said.
"What?" Ty asked.
"There was a rock slide and Faith got caught in it, we are at the Tulsa hospital, she has to do surgery in a couple hours, and they won't let us see her." Mason explained.
"WHAT!" Ty repeated.
"Yea, it happened an hour ago, she has been unconscious the whole time." Mason continued.
"OK we will be there soon," Ty hung up the phone.
"What was that about?" Navvy asked. "Faith is really hurt and in the Tulsa hospital." Ty explained. "Wait, how badly hurt?" HiJack asked. "I don't know Mason just said that she has to have surgery in an hour or so." Ty grabbed his jacket, and him, Navvy, Cash, HiJack and Marty all piled into the car and started driving to Tulsa.
It was really dark, and kinda loud, I didn't know where I was or what was going on. "Mason?" I moved a little, but then someone stopped me. I couldn't think straight. "Is there anymore medicine she is waking up a little." I heard someone say. "We have enough to keep her asleep through the surgery." Another voice replied. Surgery? I thought, I couldn't think of anything very clearly all I could hold on to was Mason's name. "Mason?" I asked again. I kept saying it over and over and I couldn't stop myself.
"Mason? Dylan?" Ty came bursting into the hospital. Mason and Dylan were sitting in chairs in the waiting room. They looked over to see that everyone had gotten there. "Hey guys," Dylan said standing up to hug all of them. Mason stood up and walked over to Cash. "You know Mason; I am sorry for what I did. I would never have forgiven myself if it was you in that medical bed." Cash told Mason. "I know and you cutting me isn't why we ran away." Mason explained. "We ran away because of what Faith did, what she accidentally did." Mason continued. "She is the one that killed the Mod, we know" Cash told him. Mason nodded. "I am glad to see you again though," Mason said. Cash couldn't say anything, and he just smiled. After that they went over to the group and talked with them.
"How's Faith do'n, have y'all heard anything?" HiJack asked. "No she went into surgery two hours ago and they said it would take about two hours, so she should almost be done." Dylan explained. Mason was just sitting in a waiting room chair, not saying anything staring off into space.
"Hey kid you alright?" Navvy asked, going to sit by Mason, leaving the others to talk. Mason said nothing. "Mason?" Navvy asked. "What's up?" "It is my fault," Mason mumbled, still staring off into space. "What?" Navvy asked, confused. "It is my fault Faith had to get a surgery," Mason said a little louder. "What are you talking about, you didn't start the rock slide, did you?" Navvy kept asking him questions. "No, but I did shoot her on accident," Mason started. "Dylan and I were hunting and we heard screaming, so we went back to where we were staying and Faith was going to get attacked by a bear. I got the gun and aimed for the bear, but apparently I missed. I didn't even realize I hit her until after the rockslide when we found her." Mason continued. The two of them sat there for a minute when a doctor came into the waiting room.
"The group for, Faith Borden," The doctor announced. All of them stood up and walked over to the doctor. "Is there someone here named, Mason?" He asked. "That's me sir," Mason told him. "Follow me," The doctor turned around and started walking away, Mason following right behind.
As they walked down the hallway the doctor proceeded to talk. "She has been asking for you, even while we were doing surgery she was asking for you." The doctor opened the door quietly and they walked in. "We thought it would be best if you stayed in here with her." The doctor continued. "See that green button on the wall over there?" The doctor asked, Mason nodded. "If anything goes wrong, or if she wakes up, push that button and it will alert us that something has happened and we will be in quickly." The doctor smiled at Mason, then turned around and left.
Mason sat in the room all night, not being able to sleep, just thinking. "It's all my fault." Mason thought allowed. "It's all my fault you are in here and that you had to have surgery. If I hadn't run out of the house when Cash cut me this never would have happened, or if I hadn't jumped in the water pushing that Mod down into the knife, we wouldn't have had to run away." Mason continued. He talked every once in a while, not really sure if I could hear him and if I could if I would even listen, but he did anyway.
