It was a couple days after Cash died that we had the rumble. It was about ten p.m. when the boys started getting ready. "Can I come?" I asked. "I don't know..." HiJack said hesitantly. "Why not?" I asked. "Because you are young, you just got out of the hospital, you are a girl..." He started. "Really you won't let me fight because I am a girl?" I asked.
"Come on it is only skin on skin, no one gets that hurt in skin on skin fights." I told him. As I said that the rest of the gang came out of the hallway. "Do y'all think it is a good idea to let Faith fight in the rumble?" HiJack asked them. "We can use all the help we can get," Navvy started. "And it is only skin on skin," Dylan continued, "And we all did say she was one of the toughest people we have ever met. Also even if we say she can't she will anyway." Mason finished.
"Alright, alright, alright you can fight, but be careful." HiJack scolded me. "What happened to my dare devil big brother." I asked, smiling. "Don't even go there," HiJack smiled back. I laughed and then got ready for the rumble.
It was around eleven when we actually went outside. We walked about four blocks to a big open field right in the middle of our territory and the Mod's. We met some of the other Rud gangs there and we talked for a little while. "Hey you were in the paper right? you are the girl that killed that Mod." A leader of another gang asked. His name was Gunner, he had slicked back, black hair and he had piercing blue eyes. He had on jeans and a tight T-shirt. "Yea, that was me," I said a little shyly.
"Wait why is she here, she is a girl?" A boy in another gang asked. "Good observation Einstein, what next will you say that after Columbus discovered America in 1942 he discovered electricity and Walt Disney made the first lightbulb." I joked. "Wow, and some attitude, I like it." The same boy said. "Are you trying to flirt with me?" I asked. "Depends," He walked closer. "Stop right there Romeo." I put my hand out, to gesture that he should stop. When I did he promptly backed away.
A little while later we heard cars coming down the street and we saw about six or seven mustangs full of Mods. "Woah, that is a lot of Mods." The same guy that was flirting with me pointed out. "Just stop." I told him. "What?" he asked. "You lower the IQ of everyone here when you talk." I joked.
The Mods all got out of the cars and came over to us. We all stood in somewhat of a line and so did they. "It's been a while, Caleb," Ty said to the older boy in the middle. "Not long enough," Caleb smiled.
"What's up?" I whispered to Mason. "Caleb used to be in our gang, but then his dad got a new job and they became rich." Mason explained, and I nodded in acknowledgement.
We all stood there for a minute, not doing or saying anything, when suddenly someone pushed me and I fell on the ground. Then we all started fighting. Ty was on Caleb and we were all having at the Mods. I was a better fighter than I thought I was.
After a while it started to rain and make the ground all slippery. Everyone was punching and kicking each other and beating each other up. People being thrown left and right. Some of the boys where to scared to hit me even though I could take a punch. They wouldn't hit me unless I hit them first.
We fought for seven minutes about. My face was all bruised and bloody just like the rest of me. I had been kicked so many times and punched and I think some of them bit me. I couldn't really tell I was bloody or bruised, I couldn't tell that anyone was bloody or bruised, because we were all running around kicking up dirt and the rain made the ground all muddy, so we were all covered in mud.
The Mods started leaving one by one, and then in bigger groups. They had a lot of people before so when some left the group was still somewhat big. We fought for another five minutes. I had a guy on top of me that was just beating me like his life depended on it. He was punching me, and kicking me. I couldn't really get him off me when I was half unconscious.
Then Mason saw that I was getting beat, bad, so he came over and beat the Mod that was beating me, and then he helped me up. "You alright?" He asked. "I'm fine," I smiled, and then we kept fighting.
Soon there was almost no Mods left, there was maybe fifteen or twenty of them. The only ones left were the bigger ones that could beat more than one person at a time. There was more of us though, so it wasn't too long before they started to leave too.
My head was throbbing and I could barely move. I was completely covered in mud. Everything was blurry because my face was covered in mud and rain.
After five more minutes all he Mods were gone. The Ruds had won, we all started cheering and clapping. "You're a little muddy," Mason said, coming over and standing next to me. "I could see the same about you." I smiled
Mason and I were standing watching everyone when someone accidentally bumped me and I fell. Mason caught me like he was dipping me. We looked at each other for a while, it seemed like no one else was there, everything was quiet. He leaned in and we kissed, then he pushed me back up and we still kissed. When we were done, we looked up and saw everyone had stopped cheering and were looking at us. "Well that was passionate," Dylan joked. Mason and I just smiled and we went over and got with the rest of the gang and then went back to the Curtis house.
When we got back we all took showers and then went and sat in the main room to put Band-Aids on our cuts and ice our bruises. We were all pretty cut up and bruised. My face looked all jacked up, because I had the cuts across my face from the bear still and now I had huge cuts from getting punched and kicked. "Wow, can you even see?" HiJack joked. "HaHaHa very funny," I smiled."But really though can you even see, or feelyour face?" Mason asked. "Yes, I can. Just don't look at my face, I know, itlooks like I got mauled by a bear, probably because I was." I joked. "Anyway, the cuts will go away eventually, but I will probably have scars from the cutsfrom the bear." I told them. "That'll be so cool," Dylan laughed.
