“Um so hey, mom”
“Yes?” she asks suspiciously.
“So remember when I told you Drew and I were dating?”
She thought for a moment, “I think so.”
“Okay, well he asked me to go on a trip to California with him, and you know I’ve always wanted to go to California, so can I go please please please?” I give her the puppy dog eyes.
“ Look Sweetie.”
“Ugh.”
“It costs so much money.”
“Mom he got, ugh, okay I’ll tell you the whole story okay?”
“Okay.”
"Okay so he called and he said that he has two tickets for a vacation to a California beach house for one week and he was wondering if I could go with him.’’
“Alone?”
“Alone.” I answer
“Hmmm I’m not so sure about it yet sweetheart.”
“Mom please, you know I’ll be responsible.”
More thinking, “Fine.” She says
“Oh my God are you serious? Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
I hug her tightly. I run up the stairs to go call Drew.
He answers on the third ring.
“Hello Casey Rae.”
“She’s letting me go!”
“Yes!”
“I know, but I need to thank you the most.
I can feel his smile through the phone.
“We leave tomorrow at 11:30am, and we’re going to Santa Maria.” He gives me all the details.
“Okay I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Okay”
“Forever and always?”
“Forever and always.”

Ding Dong. I hear the doorbell ring. I’m done packing. Everything’s good.
I run to the door and open it.
“Hello beautiful.” He kisses me on the cheek and hands me a beautiful bouquet of flowers, roses.
My mother than comes in.
“Hello Drew.” She looks nervous just as much as I do.
“Hello Ms. Rae.”
“It’s a pleasure to see you again. May I offer you any drinks or snacks before you head out?”
He looks at me as if to ask me do you need anything. I nod my head no.
“I don’t think so.”
Then he tells my mom all the details of where we’re going.
I kiss her goodbye and then we’re gone.
