For Emily, at the end of a book she'd sit back feeling either confused or bored. Her strong suits were science in school. She was always found the idea of mad scientists interesting as a child. Looking at chemicals, test tubes, and bubbling, over flows, she had never gotten anything less than an A in any type of science she'd take. The reason she was in the library in the first place was to pick out a book for Jake. He read day in day out. He'd pick a good book over TV most days. He could be very classical in his choices and unique with his taste.
So the catch for Emily was picking something that would really please him, but she didn't really know where to start. She knew he was really big on fantasy and adventure like Harry Potter but she didn't really know where to start. She knew he also likes modern love stories like the notebook. She hoped to find a book with the mixture of several of those elements as she was walking down the aisle she stepped on shiny black dress shoe. She jerked up quickly to apologize, and it was John she froze unable to find the words to say.
"It's okay." He chuckled before she could choke out the words a sentence she swallowed, her face drained of all color they hadn't seen each other in about 4 months.
"How have you been?" He asked.
"Fine," She said surprised he was asking.
"I'm doing pretty well myself, what's new with you?"
Emily assumed he meant relationship status wise.
"Nothing much, " She shrugged.
"I just got a job recently, that all for me.. nice pocket change."
Emily looked at him thoughtfully and nodded, then felt bad for him being so kind with her despite how she mistreated him.
"Uh John, i'm really about before I truly am I doubt that's the least of your worries anymore, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry for hurting you. I was in a mentally desperate place." Emily recalled nervously.
"Water under the bridge, I tend not to hold onto things." He smiled. "It's over don't stress."
Emily gave him a warm guilty smile, she failed to mention her boyfriend, so not to cause tension. There was an awkward silence that was interrupted by Jake pulling her to leave the library. Emily waved lightly and scurried off with Jake.
