ADRIENNE
FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Seeing my friends standing there feels like a nightmare. A recurring nightmare that wakes you up with with a tear-strained face, sweat-streaked pillowcase, and a trembling body.
"Why did you do that??" I demand. "You knew they were coming in here!"
"What's the issue? What kind of friends are they if they don't approve of the guy you're dating? C'mon, Adrienne. They're no good for you."
I sigh, unable to fathom just how pissed they must be at me. I violated the sanctity of our beloved pizza joint, and I threw my relationship with Luke in their faces.
"Will you please just take me back to school?" I ask somberly. Luke takes a big gulp of water before squinting his eyes at me a little bit.
"Adrienne, I just said that we're dating. Doesn't that mean anything to you?"
I can't help but roll my eyes. "Yay," I remark unenthusiastically. "Now, will you please take me back? I'm not hungry anymore."
Luke inhales sharply through his noise before leaving a $10 bill on the table for our drinks and gets up. I follow after him like a lost puppy.
